You know what, sign me up. A new Call of Duty set in North Korea? How can I say no to that? It’s one way to put a bullet through this new, fictional North Korean Supreme Leader. Plus, continue with the Captain Price/Makarov drama.

You can pre-order the new game as early as now, with the Standard and Vault Editions available on all major platforms. Those who pre-order will have Early Access to the game on October 16, 2026. However, the full release is not until October 23, 2026.

In the meantime, stay up to date with the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 article below.

What is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 (2026)?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is the next entry in the long-running Call of Duty franchise. There’ve been so many CoD games, I’ve lost count. However, the timelines that have stood out the most have been the Modern Warfare and Black Ops series. Seems like we’ll be continuing with Captain Price’s Task Force 141’s stories alongside Ghost and antagonist Makarov.

Yet, the new Modern Warfare entry will be taking us to the Korean Peninsula, where the North Korean army has launched an invasion into South Korea. And thus begins a fresh large-scale conflict on the border of North and South Korea, with a squad largely made up of South Korean soldiers and some American nationals. As a CoD fan, though, you should already be well aware of what to expect.

The conflict will span across the entire world, sending you on globe-trotting missions that aim to neutralize a dangerous threat. Perhaps recover stolen military equipment, or most likely missiles. Captain Price returns, this time, however, on an off-the-books mission chasing Makarov, and winding up tied to the North-South Korean conflict. Fun times ahead.

Story

Listen, I have to clarify on this that although the story hugely references the real-world events surrounding the ruling Kim family in North Korea, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s story will be a fictional one. It’s unsurprising, also, that Infinity Ward and Activision will borrow ideas from real-world conflicts. It’s what has made the series gritty and realistic, challenging players to question what they would do if they were to find themselves in the middle of some of the biggest and most devastating conflicts in the world.

Details on the specific plotlines are still haphazard. But I can confirm that the story campaign will take you from the Korean Peninsula to engaging in melee fights in New York, getting caught up in car chases across Paris, raiding enemy territories in Mumbai, and launching full-on assaults on major modern cities. The story will tie together a fictional North Korean Supreme Leader’s invasion of South Korea and the personal vendetta Captain Price enacts on Makarov.

Associate Design Director, Alex Norris, and Narrative Director, Jeff Negus, also reveal more concrete details about the campaign. They reveal a new squad of South Korean Marine soldiers, namely Park, Jay, Cho, and Moon, and American Marines, West and Dunn. A new cast is definitely exciting, like meeting someone for the first time. The dialogue and banter among the soldiers should also be refreshing, given the cultural differences, and potentially build lasting bonds.

Gameplay

The Call of Duty combat system has consistently maintained a high bar of precise aiming and fluid movement. It has successfully merged a mix of melee and ranged combat, using knives and guns to spice up enemy encounters. You even have stealth sections that make the most of the intricate level designs. In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, the devs plan to go bigger and more explosive. Yet, even with the expansive cinematic missions, the devs still want to create setpiece moments that leave a lasting impact.

You can play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 solo or with friends. In multiplayer, you have the option of PvP or PvE modes. Particularly in the DMZ game mode, where you enter a large-scale map, loot, fight enemies, and extract before the time runs out. It’s a popular CoD extraction shooter mode that’s best known for players losing all of their acquired loot when they die before they extract. It’s about knowing which objectives are worth completing and when to get out.

Development

Infinity Ward and Activision continue their steadfast run developing the next CoD game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. They have thought out every frame, collaborating among the narrative, sound, and gameplay design teams. There has been a lot of intention when deciding which characters to put front and center in the campaign, and which objects in the environment to design. A huge part of it has been accurately depicting the Korean culture through collaboration with the Activision Shanghai team. I’m pretty excited to see how authentic the dialogue is, especially with localization.

Trailer

Do take your time in analyzing the reveal trailer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, I know I have and will continue to do so until I’ve broken down every single detail. It’s cinematic, as expected, and action-charged. The sound is awesome, as are the starkly clear graphics.
