8 Best Mobile Games Like Candy Crush

Updated on

Ah yes, Candy Crush. Love it or hate it, we can't pretend that it doesn't eat up 225Mb of our internal storage from at least one of our devices. Because the simple fact is, nearly everyone and their neighbor has played a round or two at some point in the last decade or so. And now, with the game celebrating its tenth anniversary, it gives players more the reason to return, if only to relive those first few thousand levels all over again.

Candy Crush isn't all that different from any other match-three puzzler on the market, other than its hungry eye for all things sweet and sour. But given the fact that it has raked in well over a billion users during its healthy lifespan, it just goes to show that developer King knows how to one-up a basic concept. And hey, clearly the guys who built it had done something right, otherwise we wouldn't still be here singing its praises ten years later. But should you, for whatever reason, be looking for a change of pace, then be sure to look into these Candy Crush alternatives.

8. Hexbee

If you happen to remember Sky's integrated game, Beehive Bedlam, which was hands down one of the most popular of its kind during the early noughties—then you'll definitely recognize one or two features in Hexbee. From the classic honeycomb structure to the simple yet addictive match-three gameplay, Clueless Little Muffin brings a healthy dose of nostalgia in its well-rounded homage to one of Sky's all-time favorites.

7. Bake Shop Drop

Bake Shop Drop is your classic tile-matching mobile game that ties its roots to the unmatched torchbearer of arcade gaming, Tetris. Incredibly similar in design, but with a whole lot of pastries and other sticky baked goods laced between, the simple yet effective mobile game brings plenty to the table, leaving you to pick and choose from a wide array of virtual delicacies.

6. Cookie Jam

If you haven't quite had your fill with Bake Shop Drop, then you'll have the chance to get your seconds with Cookie Jam, a match-three puzzle game that sees you collecting an entire archive of biscuits, treats, and a whole lot of sugary goodies. With over 6,000 levels to grind out over its lengthy campaign mode, Cookie Jam will surely give you plenty to knuckle down on during the colder days of the year.

5. Jelly Splash

The same rules apply here: load up one of hundreds of levels, connect a series of gummy-like creatures, and challenge your friends for a spot on the leaderboard. That's really all there is to it when it comes to Jelly Splash. It's far from unique, and does follow the bog-standard match-three format, but it does serve as an addictive little gem for idle hands. And hey, if you like cutesy characters with larger than life eyes, then it's definitely worth checking out.

4. Disco Bees

If you enjoy a good play on words, especially when it comes to bees and the likes, then Disco Bees is a great choice for filling your match-three craving. Of course, the goalpost doesn't budge an inch, and it's still very much the case of lining up colorful zombees, hipbees, and all sorts of other bee…folk. But it is worth picking up, if only to challenge your friends for a spot on the honeycomb throne.

3. Juice Cubes

Another title that looks to cash-in on the global success that Candy Crush employs is Juice Cubes. Like its siblings, the blocky match-three puzzler has you swiping through a plethora of fruity stages, battling pirates, mermaids, and an army of witches as you work to rack up as many points as possible. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but then, it doesn't really have to.

2. Zookeeper Battle

Zookeeper Battle is something of an up-and-comer in the Android and iOS market, given the fact it has accrued a well-rounded ten million players since its launch. And for good reason too, as it is far more than a match-three puzzle game without the depth. It's actually a kingdom builder of sorts, which sees you collecting rare animals between battles, as well as cosmetics to boost your zoo's overall appeal. So, a step up from Candy Crush, you could say.

1. Angry Birds Match

It was only natural for Angry Birds to buy into the whole match-three jargon, to be fair. Though, given its reputation, and how well the original games performed on mobile devices, it wasn't a bad move by Rovio Entertainment by any means. And although Angry Birds Match is just your run-of-the-mill puzzler, it does boast a thread of original birdlike features, making it a small part of the award-winning kingdom that is Angry Birds‘ groundbreaking success.
