Hand-to-hand combat has been an ever-changing and adapting mechanic in video games, but nothing beats the style of classic fighting games. As a result, we've compiled a list of the top five fighting games for PC in 2022.

Since the release of Mortal Kombat's arcade fighter in 1992, the genre has evolved into a plethora of styles. And many games have pushed and reimagined the genre's distinct fighting gameplay in their own unique ways. Now there is an abundance of games that deliver that classic fighting game feel, but with their own distinctive playstyles. Brawlhalla is a free-to-play platform fighter that was released in 2017. It began as a simple concept that grew in popularity to become one of the most prevalent daily active fighting games today. Majority of the time, players are putting their skills to the test in online ranked 1v1 battles. Because, as you may be aware, the curve in a fighting game is perfecting your abilities and learning new movesets in order to outperform your opponents. And with over 50 Legends in Brawlhalla, each with their own signature move, there's a lot to learn and perfect in the game.

All of this contributes to the fast-paced, intense, and ever-changing fighting combat in Brawlhalla. However, If ranked fighting isn't your thing, there are plenty of other game modes to keep things interesting. You can invite your friends to participate in a variety of party game modes, including Brawlball, Bombsketball, Capture the Flag, Kung-foot, and many others. Brawlhalla remains one of the best fighting games not just on PC but in the genre currently. That is why it is worthwhile to try out the game before dismissing it.

After finishing the main story, you can move on to character episodes. These are intended to provide more backstory and insight into each character's story, as well as to further develop the Mishima Clan's lore. Even after you've finished the story mode, there's still plenty to do in Tekken 7. There are casual vs battles, arcade battles, and treasure battles. Of course, Tekken 7 has online ranked fighting, but be warned: Tekken has a devoted fanbase and a renowned competitive scene. It takes place in a different timeline, but it still follows the main plot of the battle between the cursed Soul Edge sword and the spirit Soul Calibur sword. However, in addition to reimagining the story, the developers also created new gameplay to go with it.

Reversal Edge is a new mechanic that allows players to counterattack their opponents' attacks in slow-motion. Soul Charge provides fighters with temporary power boosts that transform them into superior versions of themselves, granting them special attacks. And Resist Impact is a new defense move that can defend against unblockable and break attacks. Overall, Soulcalibur VI has introduced a slew of new changes to improve its weapon-based combat. All of these have been praised by its fan base, making for one of the best fighting games on PC in 2022, especially if you're looking for new and diverse fighting gameplay.

Which has been praised not only for its epic gameplay but also for the degree to which each character's representation overlaps with their show counterparts.

Not only can you play as your favorite characters from the show, such as Goku, Vegeta, and Cell, but you can also perform their iconic combos. The game also has a story mode, casual and ranked play, and group fights that are as epic as their TV show counterparts. Fans of the manga will undoubtedly enjoy this game, and those who haven't seen it yet are in for a real treat. Because Dragon Ball Fighter Z has some of the best fighting game combat and visuals you could ask for on PC.

In its quarter-century run, the game is easily the pinnacle of the series' gameplay, mechanics, and graphics. That is why it is without a doubt the best fighting game available on PC in 2022, and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Mortal Kombat 11 is endlessly entertaining, thanks to its easy-to-learn but difficult-to-master mechanics and cast of iconic characters. Whether you're diving into the epic story to brush up on the Sub-Zero and Scorpions plot or simply want to dominate your friends in casual vs, Mortal Kombat 11 is a sure hit. The game takes the best of fighting gameplay, with a good mix of weapon-based combat and of course the genre's gory but glorified staple, finishing moves. Which have all brought with them horrifying but equally epic cutscenes.
