What is Fortnite?- Everything You Need to Know

You have probably heard of Fortnite. It is basically the feeling of play of recent times. Fortnite is a giant. It exploded on the scene a few years ago, achieving huge success in the wave of battle royale games. It is now available on a wide variety of platforms. Even if you’ve heard about it, you may not know what Fortnite is, how it works, how to play it or why everyone cares so much. We are here to help with an explanation of what the game is and everything else you need to know.

What is Fortnite Battle Royale?

The original version of Fortnite was designed by Epic Games developers as a zombie survival game. An open experience playing cooperative players against waves of zombies. Giving these players the ability to gather resources and build bases to defend against the approaching hordes.

This style of play is based on the Japanese thriller “Battle Royale”, originally released in 2001. The premise of the gameplay is quite simple. 100 players are taken from an airplane (or, in the case of Fortnite, a floating battle bus) to a large island or area where they need to fight each other until there is a final survivor or surviving team.

To increase tension, a disorderly, randomly placed circle of destruction forces players to get closer and closer as the game progresses. Anyone caught outside this zone will inevitably die and be out of the race. Therefore, the game is not just a fight against other players, but a race against the clock.

This design was popularized by PlayerUnknown’s battlefields, but with Fortnite Epic Games it added something new. The resource collection and basic building elements of the main game also appear in the Battle Royale version. This means that players have a variety of game options. Including building a base at the end to defend yourself from other players. Building walkways in the sky or on top of nearby mountains or even quickly building defensive walls to protect fallen teammates from incoming shots as they are revived.

The gameplay

The game starts as a race to gather resources, find and collect bigger and better weapons. So, kill or avoid other players who are nearby. Players need to be constantly aware of the shrinking game zone and try to stay within it. Without being eliminated along the way. The game ends when the final players eliminate it and a team or individual is victorious.

Fortnite is playable alone or with friends and is the game with friends where that game really shines. You can play with up to four players in a squad or two players in duo mode. The experience varies widely, depending on how many people are playing. On your own, you have no one to look after your back, but you are also unlikely to encounter a group of four enemy players at the same time.

The experience is certainly exciting and the players are loving it. This style of play seems incredibly popular, but the game itself is also seeing a huge and growing number of players, because it is not only available on multiple platforms, but it is also free.

Fortnite Battle Royale also features brilliant cartoon graphics. It becomes attractive and easier to access than the more serious battlegrounds of PlayerUnknown or Call of Duty: Warzone. With character emoticons, silly animations and well-crafted construction mechanics. It often looks silly and fun than a serious competitive style game too.

How to download and play Fortnite

As we already mentioned, Fortnite is available to play across multiple gaming platforms. The most recent of which is mobile. It was also designed to allow playback on multiple platforms, meaning that all your players can face each other. Regardless of the machine they’re playing on.

The intention here is to allow everyone to play with their friends, regardless of the machine or device they are playing on. As the game is free, it is also easy for anyone to dive.

Playing on PC

On the PC, you can download Fortnite directly from the official website. All you need is an Epic Games account and then you are free to download the installer and get started.

Playing on PlayStation 4

To start playing Fortnite on PS4, simply go to the PlayStation store and search for “Fortnite Battle Royale”. Again, the basic version is free, just add it to your basket and download it. If you’re on the PC, you can also add it to your account on the PlayStation store website.

Playing on Xbox One

Go to the store and search for “Fortnite Battle Royale” and click to get it for free. You can also get it in your browser here. It is worth mentioning that Fortnite is also on the list of Xbox One X Enhanced games.

Playing on Mobile Device

For a long time, Fortnite got a little complicated on mobile, especially on Android. But that is no longer the case. It is playable on most relatively new Android phones or iPhones.

You can download it from the Apple App Store and here from the Google Play Store. Best of all, there are no shortcuts. Fortnite on mobile is exactly the same as on all other platforms in terms of content. With only the visuals and controls being substantially different.

How much does Fortnite cost?

Fortnite: Battle Royale is free to play. The survival game can be purchased on the website and at various console stores, but the game everyone is obsessed with is free to access. If you choose to do this, you can pay for cosmetic items to change your character’s appearance. But there is nothing to help you win or gain an advantage over other players.

Fortnite Battle Royale also offers battle passes. They are optional purchases that allow players to unlock various exclusive rewards. This includes cosmetics, such as loading screens, banners, character emoticons, different gliders and more.

These battle passes are sold in a “season”, which means that they apply for a limited period and attract more dedicated players and fans of the game. Once purchased, the more you play, the more rewards you unlock, with 100 rewards available. One for each level of the season. Players can also purchase a “Battle Pack” that instantly unlocks 25 levels and requires less playing time.

Battle passes and other in-game items can be purchased within the game itself, using the game’s premium currency. That currency is V-Bucks, and if you buy a lot of things, the costs can be high. However, none of them will give you an advantage in the game. These purchases are certainly something that parents should know for sure.
