After the popularity of the previous two Sonic films, a third one seemed imminent. Critics and fans alike hailed the original Sonic the Hedgehog film. The film was also the most successful video game movie in the United States. In just three months, the global box office for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film exceeded $400 million. The lifetime earnings of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 have surpassed $190.87 million.

In addition, a Sega and Paramount Pictures’ live-action sequel which launched on March 30 in select regions, is also currently the fourth biggest grossing video game adaptation. It is just ahead of Sony’s Uncharted movie, which launched in January.
