Resident Evil 4 Vs Resident Evil 4

The upcoming remake of Resident Evil 4 will roll out The Mercenaries, a classic arcade mode that initially died alongside the 2005 original.

PlayStation's recently posted State of Play event teased a myriad of items, most notably a thread of things relating to the Resident Evil 4 remake. Unsurprisingly, the feature that caught the lion's share of the attention during the event was The Mercenaries, a classic mode that will now, at least according to Capcom, release as post-launch DLC following the base game's March 24, 2023 release.

“In addition to a glimpse at the confrontation between Leon and Krauser, the trailer also officially announced the return of The Mercenaries!” a post on the PlayStation Blog added. “The popular extra game mode that appears throughout the Resident Evil series will also appear in RE4. The team is hard at work on The Mercenaries, which will be available as free post-launch DLC.”

What Is The Mercenaries?

The Mercenaries, for those who don't know, is a mode that sees players traveling to the various areas as seen in Resident Evil 4 and essentially racking up points by killing enemies in a timely fashion. It was initially believed that the mode wouldn't make it into the final mix of the remake, but alas, Capcom has finally shed some light on it.

So, how can you go about getting your hands on the DLC? Well, for starters, you can buy in to the Deluxe Edition. Alternatively, you can wait for the patch to hit, which will no doubt come out in the months following its March launch. As for when it'll launch is still anybody's guess, though it's unlikely to be any later than Q3 2023.
