Are you sitting down? Good, because you're about to be in for a little surprise. Also, if you didn't feel old enough already — then you're about to in the next eight seconds, I'm afraid. Although, it may not come as a major shock to you, seeing as it's making its way from all corners of the gaming community as of late. That being said, it's still enough of an emotional boulder to try and wrap our heads around. But anyway — what was I saying?

Nintendo are celebrating their tenth anniversary of the 3DS, released on March 27th in North America. That's ten whole years of memorable gaming, defining moments and portable perfection all crunched down into one bite-sized little device. Sure enough, people are flocking to social media to express their favourite moments over the last decade of the 3DS, a few latching onto the likes of The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing and, of course — Super Mario.

Since the global release of the Nintendo 3DS, people have been able to gawp over a thousand unique titles. From indie platformers to iconic reboots, this handy little kit has gone on to entertain and influence millions over its ten-year lifespan. Only now, with the Switch taking point and running the portable showcase, players are drifting off towards the newer tech in search of fresher memories. Though, perhaps with the anniversary of the 3DS, owners will finally dust off the old tech and give it a second whirl.

Nintendo officially stopped releasing the 3DS in September 2020 and had finally announced that just shy of eighty million units had been sold since its 2011 launch. But to put you in the picture regarding the Switch sales; it's roughly the same amount of shipped units, only with the Switch being available since 2017. And, if that doesn't clue you in on how well the Switch is selling — then I'm not sure what will. This is Nintendo after all. I mean, to be fair, these guys could probably sell water to a whale and still turn a profit.

Here's to another ten fantastic years of Nintendo gaming.
