Hundreds of PlayStation Games Will Soon Be Lost Forever

Published

 on

With the unfortunate closure of the PSP, PS3 and PlayStation Vita Stores over the next few months, it comes as no surprise that many games will be stripped from their respective shelves entirely. And while you'll still be able to snag a physical copy here or there, acquiring one might just come as a major challenge to you — what with most stores being closed.

From July 2nd, players will no longer be able to access the PSP and PS3 marketplaces, meaning all access to the digital titles will be revoked for the foreseeable future. Following on from this, August 27th will see the departure of the Vita, again, meaning all games will be unavailable through the usual store. Sadly, this means that 2,200 digital-only games will no longer be available to purchase. They will, however, be around on other platforms. At least most of them, anyway.

The PS Vita shared a mild success, albeit a rocky one, after its 2011 launch.

While you'll still be able to get your hands on some of Sony's banished titles on Xbox, PC, and any other established format, 138 exclusives will be lost forever post-closure. The good news is that if you have purchased one of the many games that will soon be sent out to pasture, you'll still be able to play them through your libraries. And so, with that in mind, you might want to take this opportunity to invest in your last batch of games before the stores go dark for good.

Here are the games that will be banished from July 2nd (PSP & PS3) and August 27th (PS Vita):

While all of the above games will no longer be available to own, that doesn't mean you won't find any in the growing PlayStation Now library in the future. In fact, with Sony looking to challenge the Xbox Game Pass and its mouth-watering catalogue of partnerships, it might just be that all of the above finally reach the streaming service altogether. But we'll just have to cross our fingers on that one.

Now's the time to bask amongst the final days of ex-gen gaming. Come July, the books will be closing on some truly outstanding platforms with the PS5 steaming ahead to greater heights. All that's left to say is, well — thanks for the memories. Here's to a new era of digital gaming.

Jord is acting Team Leader at gaming.net. If he isn't blabbering on in his daily listicles, then he's probably out writing fantasy novels or scraping Game Pass of all its slept on indies.
