Hopes Die Over The Last of Us: Part II DLC

Well, the bad news is definitely looming for any Naughty Dog fan with high hopes of seeing some DLC for The Last of Us: Part II. Long story short — it isn't happening. But that's not to say it won't happen at some stage in the future, though. Only, for now, seeing as many followers of the franchise were under the impression that one would sprout up — it's sad to say that those hopes have now been destroyed.

Speaking on the MinnMax show, reporter Jason Schreier brought to light all of the questions surrounding the potential DLC. Although his words were brief, and the overall gist wasn't exactly story-rich, it was pretty clear that, from his insider knowledge, the additional content isn't going to be put under the hammer any time soon. Instead, Naughty Dog has been confined to the PS5 remake of The Last of Us, as well as a multiplayer title, which has yet to be named. And that's pretty much it.

What better way to celebrate the success of a game than to bolt on more content, right? Right, Naughty Dog?

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier spoke about the DLC…

“I believe at one point [Naughty Dog] was thinking about DLC, but I don't think that happened, ” Schreier said, but ultimately followed up by saying that the studio “may still do something.” So, not exactly the best news for any Naughty Dog follower. But with that in mind, there is definitely some excitement brewing over the mysterious multiplayer platform. I mean, besides the studio branching out for new employees to help work on the game — nothing else has been brought to light about it. At least not yet.

Anyway, seeing as The Last of Us: Left Behind was such a global success, it'd only make sense for Naughty Dog to revisit their award-winning world for another chapter. But for now, it seems as though any future work has been shelved for the foreseeable future. I mean, it's not like they need to harvest any more trophies or anything. Either way, we'll be glad to see the return of Ellie and friends in a future spin-off, should that ever come to development. Until then, we're left to scratch our heads over what could've been — and, of course, what could still be.

The Last of Us: Part II released on June 19th 2020 on PlayStation 4/5.
