Hideo Kojima x Xbox

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions are collaborating with Xbox on a new game. The renowned video game director and developer announced the news during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.

Hideo Kojima appeared on video during the Showcase earlier today to break the news of his new partnership with Xbox. Kojima Productions will collaborate with Xbox to create a fresh new game that will take advantage of Microsoft's cloud-based technology. Therefore the game is not a sequel, a spin-off, or a licensed project. Hideo Kojima stated he'll be working with Xbox on a game he's “always wanted to build.”

In the partnership announcement, Kojima says they are in the early phases of developing a new concept that would use Microsoft's “leading-edge technology” and “change in industry patterns” in some way.

“It's a completely new game that no one has ever experienced or seen before,” Kojima says. “I've waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it.”

Details about the game are scarce at the moment. Kojima did not reveal the name of the game or the gameplay. However, rumors about the game have been speculated for a while. Journalist Tom Henderson reported on a new horror game titled Overdose from Kojima Productions. According to the report, Margaret Qualley, who recently worked with Kojima on Death Stranding, is playing the Mama character in the game.

Kojima is most recognized for designing and overseeing the Metal Gear franchise while working at Konami. In 2015, he quit to start his own company, Kojima Productions. Death Stranding, Kojima Productions' 2019 debut title, is the studio's most recent game. That game was initially a PlayStation 4 exclusive and the developer created the game as part of a partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The game is now available on PC and  PlayStation 5.
