BioShock Creator Teases New Project

Updated on

Ken Levine, creator of BioShock, has teased his next project.

Since downsizing from the Irrational Games brand to the close-knit Ghost Story Games label, Levine has failed to shed light on so much as a sneak preview for long-term fans to gawp over. Today, at long last, that silence has been lifted. Long story short — Levine is back at the helm, and something fresh is supposedly in the pipeline.

Speaking with Arcade Attack, the lead developer said that fans “will be surprised, but unsurprised by what they see.” Whether that means we'll be receiving a game that breathes from the same bubble as Rapture and the BioShock universe is another question. Either way, the sudden announcement has put us on tenterhooks.

“In equal measures. But it is yeah… it's quite something, quite interesting, and I'm looking forward to showing it to people,” Levine continued.

So, why all the secrets?

During the podcast with Arcade Attack, Levine explained why the newfound studio failed to showcase anything to date. In short, the team didn't want to build hype for the game over a long period of time before making it available.

“We didn't want to go down the path of showing [the game] too early, because we thought it was going to be out sooner, and I don't want to have a long period of having a build-up, interest, and hype because it just doesn't, it would end up feeling fairly inauthentic and I think that gamers want to be… they want to know what they're getting, and the only way to do that really is to announce closer to launch,” Levine explained.

Unfortunately, that's all we've been told so far. As for what the game is or when it'll even come out, that's anybody's guess. The point to take away is this: Levine and his team are back doing what they do best. Here's hoping they smash it out of the park.
