Best PSVR Games

The PlayStation VR debuted in 2016 and it has remained somewhat out of the spotlight for VR systems since then. Until this year, that is. 2022 was a game-changing year for the PSVR, with a slew of new and interesting titles arriving on the platform. All of which, truly showcased the system's ability to deliver immersive and interactive VR games, and further cemented why you should broaden your gaming portfolio with PSVR. That's why, as the year comes to a close, we'd like to know which of the games released this year were the best for the PSVR.

Because, as you may know, we aren't far away from the launch of the PSVR 2, on February 23, 2023. The exciting announcement of this second-generation VR system is the sole propriety of the games that landed on PSVR this year. Some of these, will undoubtedly carry over and have their sequels released on the PSVR 2. Don't stress though, it's still not too late to jump on the PSVR bandwagon and experience its best titles. But, which games should you first dive into on PSVR for the best experience? Well, we've got you covered right here, with the games in this list. So, read on to find out!

5. Zenith: The Last City

Zenith: The Last City - Gameplay Trailer | PS VR

A Virtual Reality MMORPG seems like a fantastic idea, though still a bit of a stretch for today's standards. However, Zenith: The Last City has realized that concept to such an outstanding level of delivery that it has now established Zenith as the go-to game for an MMORP experience in VR. The best aspect is that the game is widely available on all VR platforms, including PSVR, and will also be coming to PSVR 2 when the new system releases.

Zenith: The Last City consists of just about everything you could ask for from an MMORPG. You play a customizable character placed in a fully explorable world filled with mysteries, and of course, enemies to take on. However, there's much more that goes into the fighting aspect such, as magic, guilds, parties, community raids, and world events. Almost everything you'd expect from a typical MMORPG. As a result, Zenith The Last City is not just the best MMORPG on PSVR, but on all VR systems right now. So, if that's the experience you're looking for, you can't go wrong with this pick.

4. Superhot

SUPERHOT VR Release Trailer

Though it's been out for a while, Superhot VR remains one of the best games you can experience on PSVR. Essentially, Superhot VR is made up of numerous stages, each with its own unique environment and opponents that you must defeat in order to advance to the next stage. The catch is that your movement affects the rate of time. As a result, the faster you do your actions, the faster your attackers will begin shooting at you. The slower you carry out your strategy, the slower your adversaries will act against you. As a result, there are some incredible slow-motion cinematic moments, to the point where you can dodge bullets' if you're timing's right.

It's best compared to Neo in the Matrix when he realizes he's “the one” and fights hundreds of Agent Smiths in an epic slow-mo battle. Superhot VR embodies that feeling to a tee and will most likely have you hooked after the first level. Just be prepared to break a sweat since, despite your ability to manage time, certain stages become pretty difficult and require some quick thinking.

3. Moss: Book II

Moss: Book II - Announce Trailer | PS VR

The highly-anticipated sequel to the original Moss VR game, Moss: Book II launched this year, and wow did it set the bar for the future PSVR titles to come. The game is primarily a single-player action-adventure puzzler, but don't underestimate its concept. Because Moss: Book II took home the category for Best VR game at this year's 2022 Game Awards. As a result, it's an easy choice for one of the best PSVR games on this list, and likely the first one you should try if you want an immersive, story-telling VR experience.

While you don't necessarily have to play the first game in the series, Moss, we do highly suggest it. That's because Moss: Book II carries on right where the first game's story left off, so indulging in the predecessor first will save you time in picking up the breadcrumbs of where the last story left off.

2. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard | Launch Trailer | PlayStation VR

Since the debut of Resident Evil in 2002, the thriller/horror series has been infamous for making our hairs stand up and leaving us covered in goosebumps. Almost every installation in the series, since then, has nailed the atmospheric horror story setting in different ways. However, one of the best came in 2017 with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which consequently also saw a VR release a few months later for the PSVR.

If you thought the games were haunting after playing them on a console or PC, PSVR transports Resident Evil 7: Biohazard to a whole new level of immersion. You'll be confronted with some of the most grotesque abominations in gaming and won't be able to look away when they jump-scare you. So, for those wanting a truly scary VR game, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is by far one of the best horror games available on PSVR; if you're brave enough to take on the narrative yourself.

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR – PlayStation VR Gameplay Trailer | E3 2017

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remains one of the best action-adventure RPG games to date. There's no doubt that this title paved the way for new and more thrilling action RPG titles in the decade that followed. However, gamers haven't forgotten the game that propelled the genre, since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is now available on PSVR. And, as you'd imagine, the PSVR version brings the Skyrim story back to life in a much more immersive and interactive VR experience.

It's one of the few games that has been fully adapted to PSVR, and truly showcases the full potential of the system. And, though, it may not have released this year, it still hold arguments as to why it's one of the best games on PSVR. If you haven't played the original game or ever stepped inside a PSVR, this is one game that will give you a full-course taste of what this next generation of gaming technology has to offer.
