In honor of the great actor Harrison Ford, and the revival of his iconic role as Indiana Jones in the series latest film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, we thought it would be an appropriate time to reflect on the best video game spin-offs of the franchise. Because the next best thing to watching Indiana Jones on screen is getting to play as him in a game. And frankly, these are our picks for the Indian Jones games that gave us the best experience of being in the archaeologist's shoes.

5. Indiana Jones And The Emperor's Tomb

Best Indiana Jones Games

It may not be up to today's standards, but Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2003 was one of our first 3D experiences with the character on console. Its graphics were an impressive feat for its time, but that wasn't its only achievement. The game was outfitted with an intriguing backstory and world. There were many strange environments to get our boots dirty and enemies to wrangle with our bullwhip or revolver.

Not only was the gameplay realistic and action-packed, but the story kept us invested too. The game follows the story of Indiana Jones trying to trace down an ancient artifact before it falls into the hands of Nazis. It's a classic narrative for our cowboy hat-wearing hero and one we can get behind. As a result, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb makes itself an easy pick for one of the best Indiana Jones games of all time.

4. LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues

Best Indiana Jones Games

It's no secret that the LEGO line of games has captured our hearts ever since we were kids. They're easy to enjoy with their simple controls, fun mechanics, and LEGO world-building. At the same time, they pair perfectly with a great action adventure story like Indiana Jones. So it goes without saying that we all expected this sequel to be a huge success, which it was. As a result, it's no surprise that LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues lands on this list of the best Indian Jones games of all time.

While it was an excellent game, it did not capture our imagination in the same way that the original did. That's why it's a couple of spots beneath its predecessor. Nonetheless, LEGO Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues provided us with equally exciting gameplay that we can recall to this day. That being said, most of us are probably a little fuzzy on the plot, which is fine because the joy in this title lies in its gameplay.

3. Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure

Best Indiana Jones Games

Sometimes it's not the newest most modern games that are the greatest of all time. In fact, classic games are more often than not given that honor. A significant reason why is that they strive to capture the heart and mystery of the story rather than jarring our eyes with a visual spectacle. Okay, enough ranting; what I'm trying to say is that just because Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure is an old graphic adventure originally for the NES doesn't mean it can't tell a great story today.

This sequel is still available on Steam and is one of the best-rated Indiana Jones games of all time. Its constant delivery of puzzles and methods for solving them truly made you feel like an archeological explorer caught up in a pivotal moment in history. So don't judge this book by its cover, because the 1989 Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure is easily one of the best Indiana Jones games of all time.

2. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

While we still think Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure is a fantastic game, we have to give more credit to its sequel Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Although the games are practically identical counterparts of one another, we can't say no to an original story. What's more, one that's wrapped up in a point-and-click adventure that's as detailed as it is in this game. From the puzzles to the dialogue this game just has a way to sweep you off your feet.

The mythical story of the lost city of Atlantis is a perfect fit for Indy. And by immersing ourselves in a new story, we are able to reach our own conclusions without being influenced by preconceived notions from movies. It's one of the most difficult things to do in entertainment: Spin off a franchise and tell your own story with it. Nonetheless, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis pulled it off. Exactly why we consider it one of the best Indiana Jones games of all time.

1. LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Best Indiana Jones Games

What makes LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures so special is that it follows the plot of the first three films. Tweaking the storyline ever so slightly, the game did a great job of recreating actual scenes from the films. As a result, the game was filled with nostalgia, but instead of watching it, we played it. It's most likely why the memory of this game is still flickering in so many gamers' heads.

LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures were an all-around experience. We have nothing but positive memories from this game, from the lighthearted humor and exciting gameplay to the story, which captures the iconic character's persona in a fun but daring way. Consequently, why we consider it one of the best Indiana Jones games of all time, if not the best.
