Games like Pikmin

After a decade-long Hiatus, the iconic Pikmin series is finally getting another installment with Pikmin 4 on July 21, 2023. Safe to say, fans of the series are bursting at the seems to get their licks in on the series' latest sequel. So, considering everyone has a little bit of Pikmin fever right now, we thought it was an appropriate time to bring you the five best games like Pikmin. So, turn to the game in this list to fulfill that Pikmin craving before and after Pikmin 4.

5. Little King's Story

Little King's Story - Trailer

Little King's Story slightly follows suit to the Pikmin series, albeit a more corrupt version. In this strategy RPG, you play a little boy from Earth who finds himself in another more mystical world. In this world, a magical crown has made him the king of Alpoko. With this new profound responsibility, you must make Alpoko great by expanding its dominion and taking over the world. As we said, a little more corrupt than the Pikmin series.

Out of all of the games on this list, it's the least like Pikmin. Therefore, that is why we have it slotted in the fifth spot. Nonetheless, the same concept is in play: you command people to do your bidding such build structures, finding new land, or digging for treasure. So, while it may not be the best pick in this list, we'd still say it's worth a shot if you've exhausted every other option.

4. The Wild at Heart

The Wild at Heart - Release Date Trailer - Nintendo Switch

Stepping closer into the confines of Pikmin, we have The Wild at Heart. In this story-rich 2D puzzler, you join two runaway kids as they find themselves lost in a nostalgic storybook fantasy. With the help of an ever-growing herd of mystical creatures called Spritelings, you must rebuild broken paths, take on dangerous beasts, and solve puzzles to unravel the secrets of the world. From chilling woods, dark caves, coastlines, and ancient shrines, there are a ton of secrets waiting to be uncovered in The Wild at Hearts' open-world exploration.

As you progress, you'll be able to amass your horde of Spritelings and command them to break stuff, collect loot, fight enemies, build new paths, and more. As a result, it's one of the best games like Pikmin that incorporates similar style puzzles and combat. So, if you're yearning for more power over tiny adorable beings after Pikmin 4, The Wild at Heart is a game that delivers just that. Not to mention successfully, as the game has received numerous accolades.

3. Masters of Anima

Masters of Anima - Gameplay Trailer

Just like Pikmin, Master of Anima is an action strategy game where you control other creatures. In the case of Masters of Anima, however, you can summon and command vast armies of up to 100 Guardians, engaging in action-packed battles against the forces of evil. Playing as Otto, an apprentice of Anima, you are given a remarkable ability that lets you summon magical guardians to your side. Your overarching objective is to develop new abilities for both you and your guardians and to evolve into a true Master of Anima.

So, if you're looking for a more intense, action-packed version of Pikmin, Master of Anima is it. There are tons of ways to engage in the game's combat, and as a result, offers a ton of replayability. At the same time, the game consists of a variety of puzzles to mix up the gameplay. All the way through, Master of Anima is riddled with Pikmin vibes, which is why we consider it one of the best games like Pikmin.

2. Overlord II

Games like Pikmin

Despite being the oldest game in this list, Overlord II shares many qualities with Pikmin and many themes from Master of Anima for that matter. In Overlord II, you play a Dark Master who gets chaotic minions to do his bidding for him. To reclaim your position as the one true Overlord, you must storm the land with your minions at your command, seize villages, vanquish formidable adversaries, and face off against entire battalions.

In terms of gameplay, you can instruct your minions to ride wolves and other magical creatures into battle. On top of that, they can loot the best weapons from dead enemies, raid homes for valuables, and even ride terrifying war machines into battle. Overall, raiding is the name of the game in Overlord II and you do it in a vein that's similar to the Pikmin series. Thus, why we consider it one of the best games like Pikmin.

1. Tinykin

Tinykin Is Available Now! | Launch Trailer

Out of all the games in this list, Tinykin is the closest to a Pikmin game you can get without sparking some legal actions. Much like Pikmin, in Tinykin, you catch hundreds of “tinykin” and use their unique powers to bring our main character, Milo, to his native planet. Similar to how Pikmin uses color coordination to highlight the abilities of various “Pikmin”, Tinykin uses five different types of “tinykin” that you unlock as you progress through the game.

Trapped inside a house, you must use the tinykin to help you explore every nook and cranny in hopes of finding Milo a way out. You'll encounter difficult puzzles, colorful characters, and of course, tons of tinykin along the way. With tons of “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam, Tinykin is without a doubt one of the best games like Pikmin. As a result, is our number one recommendation to play before or after Pikmin 4.
