5 Most Popular Games on Apple Arcade (April 2022)

Updated on

Apple Arcade has become something of a staple on subscription-based services as of late, thanks to its growing library of premium games and what have you. And although it isn't as popular as the likes of Game Pass and its console counterparts, the iOS-oriented platform does boast quite the number of loyal followers, all of whom flock to the library every day to feast on the latest virtual fruits.

As it stands, Apple Arcade has a wide selection of puzzles games, indie up-and-comers, and a whole lot of multiplayer beat 'em ups. But if you, like us, are only wanting to cast an eye on the platform ambassadors of the here and now, then look no further. So long as you've got an iPhone or an Apple device, you'll be as good as ready for the treasure trove of celebrated hits the library currently houses.

5. Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm

Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm – Story Launch Trailer

No, that isn't Link, nor is the game a mobile port of Breath of the Wild. It is, however, a full-fledged RPG that follows a very similar structure, which actually makes it that much more impressive, being a game built for a much smaller platform. Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, to be fair, isn't a revolutionary concept by any means, but it is a fully-realized title that knows how to play the cards it has in its possession.

Apple Arcade's open-world exclusive will see you traversing distant lands on a quest to halt an evil demon from assuming control over the region. By becoming a knight and honing your skills, you will have to become the people's saviour as you move to eliminate the opposing threat that looms on the horizon. How you reach the gates and confront the entity known as Mesmeroth, however, is entirely up to you.

4. Fantasian

FANTASIAN | Features Trailer

From the creators of Final Fantasy comes the fresh turn-based role-playing game, famously known as Fantasian. But rather than ramble on about the similarities between the two, it's probably better to just sing the latter's praises, as it is, in all honesty, a creative experience that deserves every shred of respect, as well as all eyes in the room.

Boasting a generous amount of content, the action-adventure hit delivers upwards of thirty hours of quality gameplay. And, thanks to Square Enix's impressive ability to forge memorable worlds and character rosters, it becomes a whole lot more than a slump for idle palms. It's a creation built by experienced hands—and it shows through its stunning art style and captivating plotline.

3. Beyond Blue

Beyond Blue | Teaser Trailer

Who says you can't learn a thing or two by playing video games? As it goes, Beyond Blue has proven otherwise, with thanks to its partnership with the Blue Planet creators, BBC. Together, the two parties have compiled a gameplay experience that is both educational as well as invigoratingly liberating. Although relatively restricted in terms of controls, its wide array of explorable settings are definitely something to hold out for.

Beyond Blue gives you eight unique ocean blue settings to submerge into, each coming with a mixture of creatures and mesmerizing natural landscapes. Providing you make use of a wider screen to experience it, you'll soon find yourself entwined with an enchanting world that breathes elegance and intrigue. Headphones are a must for this one, for sure.

2. Disney Melee Mania

Kingdom Hearts is one thing, sure. But for the ultimate crossover, you're going to want to explore Disney Melee Mania, a battle arena chapter that released exclusively for Apple Arcade last year. Of course, League of Legends it most certainly is not. But it is, however, a smooth little number that'll get any die-hard Disney fan riled up and ready to throw down in the 3v3 arena.

With a generous amount of playable characters, as well as a neat selection of arenas, Disney Melee Mania becomes one of the most likeable and beginner-friendly arena games on iOS. And as far as multiplayer games go, it's a sure choice for anyone looking to kill a few hours on a Sunday afternoon—especially with a few friends on either side of the battlefield.

1. Alba: A Wildlife Adventure

Alba: a Wildlife Adventure - Accolade Trailer

Where most modern games would usually rely on bullets and brawn to segue the narrative into ignition, Alba: A Wildlife Adventure opts for a calmer, smoother approach, in which you spend your time embarking on a local expedition to capture hearty images of the surrounding wildlife with your trusty camera.

Alba is a simple tale that only wishes to educate you on the importance of nature and its inhabitants. And, more importantly, how we, as people, can preserve such a kingdom by undertaking even the smallest tasks out in the real world. And so, while not rifled with action and pointless gore, it is a sweet little number that has more than enough heart and soul to keep your moral compass ticking over.
