7 “Best” Wisconsin Online Casinos (October 2022)

Updated on

Wisconsin is a state that has a rather developed gambling scene, but only when it comes to tribal casinos. Until 2020, only tribes were allowed to offer gambling, and there were no other casinos available until then. Of course, some other forms of gambling can be found in the state, but there are no commercial casinos in the state at this time. However, as online gambling has grown to be extremely popular throughout the US — partially due to the generational shift and partially because of the global pandemic that forced people into lockdown for quite a long time.

As a result, gamblers started seeking online casinos as they could no longer go to land-based ones, while even many non-gamblers decided to give them a chance and have gotten hooked since. But, not everyone has had that opportunity, and in the US, it largely depends on which state you live in, as some states have legalized online gambling while others did not to this day. Today, we wanted to check out the situation in Wisconsin and see what kinds of gambling the state has to offer, and of course the current best options for Wisconsin residents.

Below are the top ones that we recommend that offer online casinos to Wisconsin residents:

1. Ignition Casino

Ignition Casino is a platform licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and in possession of the eCOGRA certificate. The platform was founded in 2016, and it is well-known for a wide variety of games, multiple language support, top-notch customer service available via email, live chat, and phone call, as well as multiple payment methods.

The casino also offers rich bonuses, promotions, and additional benefits. Keeping up with the times, Ignition casino also supports crypto transactions. All in all, it is a great platform for those who seek a platform rich with live games, and we recommend it.

Ignition Casino is an excellent platform, and you can read everything that we know about it by clicking here.

2. Cafe Casino

Next up, we have Cafe Casino, which only caters to USA players including players from Wisconsin. The casino itself is fairly young, as it only launched in 2020. However, it grew quickly and attracted users from all over the country thanks to its generous bonuses, acceptance of cryptocurrencies, and various other payment methods.

Cafe Casino holds a Curacao gaming license, and it has a rather extensive game library, featuring slots, blackjack, multiple versions of roulette including American and European, and all kinds of other games that players from all walks of life enjoy. If you decide to stick around, you even become eligible for loyalty and VIP programs, and there are always promotions involving something called a mystery bonus.

The platform is also big on security and customer support, and it is available via mobile and desktop, so you can play your favorite games from home or while on the go. In the third spot, we have Wild Casino — a platform that offers excellent bonuses, hundreds of games, and it currently accepts players from Wisconsin. The casino was launched in 2017, and it obtained a license from the Panama Gaming Commission. Since then, it has been a common gambling site for US gamblers, constantly adding more games through partnerships with new software providers.

It features slots, tables, video poker, and, of course, roulette. Other than that, it has a lot of benefits that make it attractive to players, such as fast payouts, generous bonuses, the great quality of games, multiple payment options, compatibility with various devices, and more. In the end, it is one of the most popular platforms for a reason, and it is no accident that it ranks high on our list. 4. Bovada

In fourth place, we have Bovada, which is both a casino and a sportsbook. The platform was launched in 2011, which was also when it obtained the Kahnawake Gambling Commission’s license. However, after the Commission had a policy change in 2016, Bovada decided to voluntarily drop the license in protest. As of 2022, the platform has been running without a license for six years now, and it has never had any issues as a result of its situation.

Bovada features hundreds of games, with 300 of them being slots alone. It offers multiple payment methods, including cryptocurrencies, and it has a very rich welcome bonus that continues to draw new users in. There are also various promotions and even a loyalty and VIP program for long-term users. Finally, it also has very capable customer support that you can reach via phone, email, or live chat.

Bovada is a platform with a clear vision of what the online gambling industry is supposed to look like in order for gamblers to get what they need, and you can learn everything about it from our in-depth review.

In the fifth spot, we have, which is a platform that was launched in 2013 with a special focus on offering an exceptional selection of slot machines, and it provides services for players from the USA including Wisconsin.

6. BetOnline

Nearing the end of the list, we have BetOnline, it’s a comprehensive gambling site that also mostly focuses on acting as a sportsbook, but it does still have plenty of casino games, including roulette.

Its minimum deposit is a bit above average, sitting at $20 when most platforms offer $10, but that is also still rather affordable. The platform supports multiple payment methods, including crypto, and it holds a license by Panama City authorities. It has a great welcome bonus, and plenty of crypto-involving promotions, so using digital currencies might be something worth considering.

7. Super Slots

At the end of the list we have Super Slots. This is a leading casino rich with slot games, with its entire theme revolving around this most popular type of casino game. Wisconsin Gambling Landscape

Gambling is Wisconsin is rather complex, as nothing seems to be fully legalized or fully banned. For example, the state has plenty of casinos, but they are all owned by the local Native American tribes. There is not a single commercial casino in the entire state. Then, we have sports betting, which has not been legalized, but it is still legally offered by only a single casino in Green Bay.

Online sports betting is not locally available, nor have there been any bills attempting to legalize it in the past several years, although there are some who are trying to get the officials to start discussions involving it. Moving on, the state has legal horse races but no functioning race tracks that would hold them regularly. Instead, they only take place on a few occasions throughout the year.

Daily Fantasy Sports were also not regulated, but they were not banned either, which is why major US DFS providers have been able to offer their own services to Wisconsin bettors, seemingly with no consequences. The state doesn’t seem to be too strict about punishing illegal gambling as long as it doesn’t put its citizens into dangerous and risky situations, which has created a stage for illegal online gambling.

Is Online Gambling in Wisconsin Legalized?

Unfortunately no, online gambling in Wisconsin is not legalized, but it was also not banned. This is why a lot of people in the state opted to start using online casinos based outside of the US — offshore gambling platforms. Since they are outside of the US, these platforms cannot be forced by the country or the state of Wisconsin to shut down, even though they are offering their services without owning any licenses that would allow them to do so.

As such, their services are pretty much illegal in the state. Accessing these platforms to play betting games is also not legal in the state, but, as mentioned, the authorities are not doing much to prevent it. Make no mistake — they would treat any attempts to launch an illegal gambling platform as a serious crime, but we have found no records of anyone being arrested, fined, or sued for playing a few betting games on the internet.

History of Gambling in Wisconsin

Wisconsin’s gambling history is among the shorter ones in the United States. Some countries have started legalizing or outlawing gambling more than a century ago, and often even before that. Wisconsin, on the other hand, only started legalizing gambling a few decades ago, starting in 1965.

Back then, in April, sweepstakes were legalized by the state voters with the passage of a constitutional amendment. Less than a decade later, in 1973, the state also legalized charitable bingo — again, due to the voters. In 1977, raffles became the third form of gambling to be legalized by the Wisconsin voters, and after that, the ball started rolling and bringing more and more.

In 1987, for example, the state legalized lottery and pari-mutuel betting, and only four years later, in 1991, Class III gaming compacts were negotiated with 11 Native American tribes. This resulted in the opening of more than 20 casinos that still operate to date. Next, in 2003, the compacts were renegotiated and the tribes received perpetual rights to expand and grow, while their casinos started running 24 hours per day, and they expanded their scope of games, pretty much forever. But, that was not the end of it. In 2016 and 2017, the State Assembly introduced bills to legalize DFS, and while DFS was not legalized, the state has shown that it has give them some thought. In 2020, the state got its first-ever non-tribal casino for Beloit, WI. And, finally, in 2021, the tribal compacts were renegotiated yet again, and one of the casinos got to offer sports betting as well.
