Totally Spies! — Everything We Know

Beverley Hills' most beloved secret agents are setting up for a glorious return, with a brand new adventure set to arrive on consoles and PC in 2024. With Microids already on the bill, Banijay Kids and Family will now have all the assets needed to bring Sam, Clover, and Alex back for a globe-trotting tale. And in case you haven't caught it yet — it's Totally Spies!, one of Cartoon Network's earliest poster children from the early noughties era.

“Microids is committed to faithfully and innovatively adapting well-known IP and it is a real honor for us to work on the Totally Spies! license,” said Microids CEO Stephane Longeard in a press release. “Thanks to the skills of our studios and in-house teams, we will do everything we can to offer the community a game that meets its expectations.”

So, with all of the introductory spiel out in the open, what more do you really need to know about the upcoming video game adaptation? Well, here's everything we've been able to gather on the subject in the short amount of time it's been on the circuit. Totally Spies!: what is it, and when can we expect to see it hit the shelves?

What Is Totally Spies!?

Totally Spies! is an upcoming action-adventure game by Microids. While staying true to its source, as depicted in Cartoon Network's hit animation, the game will take the Beverley Hills trio to new and unseen locations—regions in which a new enemy will apparently threaten to deface the modern world. As Sam, Clover, and Max, you will set out a variety of missions provided by WOOHP, a top-secret government organization, and bring justice to the underworld.

“We are seeing great momentum building for the Totally Spies! brand ahead of the much-anticipated return of the series next year. Microids’ expertise and passion for the world of video games, make it the perfect partner to recreate the universe for an authentic and captivating game for our fans.” said Banijay Kids and Family new business and strategic alliances director Annick Bizet.

Granted, this does leave a lot to the imagination—more so in the story and gameplay department. Fact is, Microids has been rather coy about the game's features, as it probably will continue to be until later this year, or perhaps even early 2024.

Story

Microids hasn't given anything away as far as storylines go yet. Needless to say, though, that Totally Spies! does have an entire six seasons of content under its belt, so it's not as if we're completely in the dark here.

In short, Totally Spies! follows the three teenage secret agents, Sam, Clover, and Max—a trio who, under the guidance of World Organization of Human Protection, embark on missions all over the world to help bring criminals to justice.

Gameplay

Going by Microids' blurb, players will have the opportunity to “step into the shoes of the three legendary secret agents, Sam, Clover and Alex.” As the trio, you will embark on a worldwide journey and essentially “save the world from a new enemy.”

Unfortunately, that's about all we know right now. Microids has, however, stated that the game will offer a series of “thrilling missions, offering innovative game mechanics.” So, clearly a step up from its previous video game instalments which, up until 2009, centered their gameplay around mini-games and nothing more.

Development

Let's not forget that Totally Spies! has in fact already received a number of video game adaptations since first making a name for itself on Cartoon Network. That said, the IP itself hasn't been updated since 2009's Totally Spies! Totally Party, which means Microids has a fair amount of catching up to do ahead of the next game's 2024 release.

So, why now of all times? Well, for those who missed the memo, Thomas Astruc, one of the leading minds behind Totally Spies!, announced back in 2022 that the animated series would be returning for a seventh season after an eight-year hiatus. In a bid to revive the hype for the decade-old series, Banijay Kids and Family partnered up with Microids to bring a new instalment to the video game timeline.

At the time of writing, neither of the two firms have posted a roadmap showcasing any of the key dates for the game. All we know, really, is that it'll be hitting all major platforms at some stage in 2024.

Trailer

As it stands, there are no trailers or exclusive previews outside of the bog-standard screenshot that Microids provided earlier this week. That's about it, unfortunately. If either Microids or Banijay Kids and Family do release any footage of the game, then it's bound to be towards the latter half of 2023 at the earliest.

Release Date, Platforms & Editions

According to Microids, Totally Spies! will be gearing up for a 2024 release, and will be heading to consoles and PC. It hasn't been specified which platforms it'll be arriving on, though it's safe to say that it'll be on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It's also likely to arrive on Steam closer to the time of its eventual release. So, keep your eyes peeled for that.

It's early days, so we can't say for certain whether or not there'll be any special editions of Totally Spies!, let alone pre-order bonuses to check out. Again, if anything of the sort does come knocking, then news is sure to spread via its Twitter feed. You can keep tabs on Banijay Kids and Family and all things Totally Spies! here.
