Gran Turismo Movie Release date

Sony has revealed the release date and plot synopsis for the Gran Turismo adaptation into a movie. Sony released the first details on the Gran Turismo movie's storyline, stating that the movie will be based on a true story.

According t the new report from Deadline, the Gran Turismo movie will open in theaters on August 11, 2023. The report also confirmed earlier reports that suggested Neill Blomkamp would direct the movie and Columbia Pictures would produce it. Jason Hall has written the screenplay. Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti from PlayStation Productions are all on board to create the film.

Gran Turismo Movie Plot

The plot of this adaptation follows the story of a teenage Gran Turismo player who uses their gaming skills to win a series of Nissan competitions to become a real-life professional race car driver. As the movie's plot recounts the fascinating story, the approach would only mean that the film could be based on Nissan's GT Academy contest. The contest lasted between 2008 and 2016 and awarded victors the option to join Nissan's Driver Development Programme.

It's been nearly a decade since work began on a film adaptation of the racing video game. Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti, producers of The Social Network and Fifty Shades of Gray, were tied to Sony's Gran Turismo film adaptation in 2013. The focus of this specific project was Lucas Ordóez, a GT5 gamer who became a real-life racing driver. Spanish student Ordóez and German taxi driver Lars Schlömer made headlines after beating out 25,000 other hopefuls in a 2009 GT5: Prologue race for a chance to race for Nissan. Ordóez finished second in the GT4 European Cup in 2009. And competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Dubai 24 Hours.

The Gran Turismo adaption is just one of a slew of upcoming films inspired by PlayStation video games. Several PlayStation franchises are also getting films or television shows. Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Twisted Metal, and The Last of Us are among the other titles getting adaptations. The Last of Us will debut on HBO in 2023.
