PlayStation’s Long-Awaited 2014 Exclusive WiLD “Is Dead”, Insider Claims

Updated on
Wild

PlayStation's long-awaited exclusive Wild “is dead”, according to Jeff Grubb, who recently shed light on the 2014 project.

Originating from a Giant Bomb podcast that streamed yesterday, the reporter touched base on the likes of a new Quake game, as well as the unfortunate timeline of events surrounding Wild Sheep Studio and their hit-and-miss chapter Wild. However, rather than resurrecting the hype for the game which, frustratingly, nobody has caught wind of for several years, Grubb instead shot down any hopes of seeing it come to fruition, stating “there is no Wild anymore. Wild is dead.”

“I think Michel Ancel (director) abandoned the project…he’s not working on it anymore, the project got shut down,” Grubb commented. “The team that was working on it was looking at maybe trying to stay together and work on other projects. I don’t know what happened with that, but they were like, ‘we’re not working on [Wild] anymore, but we do have a lot of talent here, so maybe we can work on some stuff’.”

Close but no cigar…

First announced at Gamescom in 2014, Wild secured a spot as one of the most anticipated games of its time, fuelling the hype for the forthcoming year with spools of art and exclusive previews. However, despite the demand the game managed to harness, developer Wild Sheep Studio, unfortunately, kept the bulk of the details under wraps, officially zipping their mouths shut in 2017. Since then, neither Sony nor WSS spilt so much as a single bean on the matter, effectively tarnishing whatever hope players had left of seeing it come to fulfilment.

Demo-wise, Wild did look rather impressive back in 2014, with all the basic ingredients to develop a genuinely fascinating pre-historic tale. Paris Game Show 2015 revealed some pretty riveting gameplay footage which, of course, doesn't exactly help soften the blow. The artwork was compelling enough to turn a few dozen heads in a room. Overall, everything was there — and it was on track for a home run. But sadly, as it happens, it struck out at the final base. Sigh.
