Ni no Kuni II: 5 Best Tips for Beginners

Ni no Kuni II is an action RPG with a rich, vibrant world that you'll likely (and happily) spend hours playing. It's an adventure in which you build a kingdom from the ground up and defend it with your life. You do get help. However, you must nurture your troop party, gathering resources and upgrading their skills the more you progress.

You'll need to do a lot of exploring, engage in tactical wars to keep the peace, and take up hundreds of side quests to learn the ropes quicker. Indeed, it's easy to spend hundreds of hours on Ni no Kuni II. So, why not go in knowing what you need to prioritize to keep the kingdom of Evermore thriving? Stay tuned to our Ni no Kuni II: Tips for Beginners for a head start.

5. Hurry On and Get to Chapter 4

Ni no Kuni II Tips for Beginners

Anyone who’s played Ni no Kuni II faithfully, will tell you that the fun only starts when you get to chapter 4. Before that, your kingdom is closed off to you. There isn’t much you can do besides checking off your to-do quests.

If at all you’re itching to do some exploring or grinding to upgrade, don’t. The importance and needfulness to do so will come much later. Once you get to chapter 4, Ni no Kuni II’s world opens up. It’s almost hard to imagine because suddenly, you get tons of options for things to do.

Before chapter 4, the game gives you some sort of guidance on what to do, where to go, etcetera. However, after Chapter 4, it assumes you’ve got the hang of it and are capable of doing it all on your own. So, make sure to hold on till chapter 4, then roam free, exploring whatever your heart desires.

4. Level Up

Leveling up in Ni no Kuni II is a rather tricky subject because there’s so much to do here, you may find it hard to choose what to focus on. Well, not to worry, we have a comprehensive list of the most essential items that will need your undivided attention. Otherwise, ignoring either one will cost you in some way farther down the road.

Party Troops

Ni no Kuni II offers up to six party members to recruit for your army troop. You can only use three members at a time, which begs the question of how to level them up. Should you focus on one after the other, three of your choosing, or all six?

Well, firstly, all six members have varying skills, perks, and abilities. Only two of the six can wield elemental powers. So, try to have at least one in your corner at all times. The others primarily focus on melee attacks using weapons like guns, swords, hammers, and more.

Here, you may want to select two of your favorite characters to add to your magic team, then focus on upgrading their weapons to deal as much damage as possible. Be careful not to have two members wielding the same weapon, say two guns, because it tends to become redundant. Also, if you don’t like magic, then by all means, ditch the magic guy for a weapons guy. Whatever works for you.

Skirmishes

The skirmish army is an easy lot to ignore, especially because they can seem a little helpless. However, you’ll find that they behave this way because of constant neglect. While, if you do level them up, they can make a lot of grinding hours go away in a single battle.

Coffers

Upgrading your kingdom is the core of the game, so you’re less likely to ignore it. The “how” can be a little tricky, though. So, try focusing on completing side quests to recruit more people into your kingdom to help build stores where you can upgrade your gear, Higgledies, and more.

That said, did you know that you can earn a passive income playing Ni no Kuni II? If you go to your kingdom management menu, you’ll see a place to select stores and collect coffers. Coffers are the game’s currency that automatically fills up while you roam about minding your own business. Just remember to check back in and collect them as soon as they fill up.

3. Don’t Forget the Higgledies

Despite how cute they look and how much you might want to cuddle them up, Higgledies are actually pretty useful knights that can help you in combat. You’ll need all the help you can get, so definitely put in the time to track down Higgledies, give them what they ask for, like corn or some other resource, feed them regularly, level them up, and build your own army of adorable but fierce Higgledies.

2. Make Good Use of Resources

By “resources,” I mean the tools Ni no Kuni II offers to help ease your way into the game. Like the social media app. It’s called a Leafbook where people go to post what’s on their mind (regarding Ni no Kuni II of course). Turns out, there is pretty useful information people dish out here, besides bonding over the adorableness of it all. Remember to like the posts you find helpful so you can find them easily whenever you need to refer back to them.

1. Retrace Your Steps for Goodies

I started by pointing out how there isn’t much to do in the first few chapters of the game. From chapter 4 onward, the game opens up more, including unlocking locations that were previously inaccessible to you. These locations can have all sorts of goodies, from little glimmering items, that help to acquire and upgrade Higgledies, to more side quests you may have missed.

Remember, side quests have a huge payoff, especially in recruiting new folks to your kingdom to help build stores, farms, guard stations, and more. You can also engage in tactical wars that help increase your stats for future battles. Or, you may retrace your steps just to redeem yourself in a battle you previously lost. Either way, revisiting areas almost always pays off.
