It’s about that time of the year when baseball fans get to live out their baseball dreams. MLB The Show 24 is officially confirmed, and it’s launching very, very soon. But before the most remarkable baseball simulation series hits the stores, you want it to find you prepared with all the details officially confirmed by developer San Diego Studio and publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment. Do we know the gameplay, editions, and platforms to expect? Let’s find out in our MLB The Show 24: Everything We Know article below.

What is MLB The Show 24?

MLB The Show 24 is an upcoming baseball simulation game by San Diego Studio and publisher Sony, based on Major League Baseball (MLB). It’ll be the 19th entry in the MLB: The Show series. While the previous game, MLB The Show 23, featured Miami Marlins player Jazz Chisholm Jr. as the cover star for the standard edition, we expect a different cover athlete for the upcoming mainline entry.

Story

Like many annual sports simulation entries, MLB The Show 24 will also have a story mode feature, picking up where its predecessor left off. It’ll include a storyline mode where you can live out your baseball dreams through the eyes of past iconic heroes. Essentially, the mode will include the most memorable moments in baseball history reconstructed for gaming consoles. Alongside fan-favorite heroes, you’ll also live out the lives of some unsung heroes of baseball.

The story mode will often feature notable career moments of iconic baseball heroes. And while some of these moments will be displayed via visualized storytelling, you can expect to play others immersively. Here’s to hoping MLB The Show 24 nails crafting strong storylines that capture your eager attention from start to finish.

Gameplay

Sony’s built overwhelming hype for MLB The Show 24’s gameplay, with a deep dive into the gameplay to expect in the final game. Including storylines celebrating baseball legends, here are the key features to expect:

  • Diamond Dynasty – You’ll build and manage your fantasy team. You’ll access legendary baseball and today’s players and compete in single-player or co-op action. All along, you’ll customize your team’s look and home stadium. Moreover, you’ll collect player cards and climb the leaderboards to the top.
  • Multiplayer – Thanks to cross-platform play, you’ll compete with online players in multiplayer action, regardless of the platform. You’ll also pick up where you left off, thanks to cross-progression.
  • March to October – This mode lets you pick your favorite team and participate in in-seasonal events through to the postseason and beyond.
  • Road to the Show – Synonymous with career mode in other annual sports franchises, Road to the Show lets you live out your baseball dreams. You build your baseball career from a rookie to the big leagues. In a role-playing free-form experience, you’ll make choices that impact your career. Meanwhile, you’ll also enjoy a dynamic narrative adapted to your journey from the Minor Leagues to the Major Leagues.
  • Franchise – Lastly, you’ll manage, build, and charge your team to World Series glory in Franchise mode.

Development

San Diego Studio has done a fantastic job sticking to development timelines over the years. In fact, the games were released earlier each year. MLB The Show 21 launched on April 20, 2021. MLB The Show 22 launched on April 5, 2022. Thereafter, MLB The Show 23 launched on March 28, 2023. Now, MLB The Show 24 will launch on March 19, a little over a week earlier. No complaints here. Plus, it’ll launch before the MLB season kicks off on March 28, 2024, which seems intentional to build hype.

It seems, though, that we won’t be seeing a tech test, which is like an open beta that previous games have had before. The trial period is often beneficial for gauging a game’s reception and receiving feedback ahead of release. It’s also great for running server tests. In any case, the unveiling of cover athlete Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is exciting. Alongside it is the MLB The Show 42-minute documentary showcasing the star’s travels to his hometown in the Dominican Republic in December, reminiscing about the culture, food, music, and baseball, of course. It’s a nice touch to connect with the superstar ahead of launch day.
