Minecraft Dungeons Vs Minecraft Dungeons II
So many new changes are coming to Minecraft Dungeons II, including a new jumping ability, more armor and talisman slots for your build customization, and two open worlds to explore. Since the fundamental gameplay structure and mechanics will remain the same as in the first game, I’m inclined to think that the sequel will do a far better job than I can imagine.
The all-new story is also exciting, which will bring new foes to contend with. And the trailer is looking sharp already, with the characters donning pretty expressive faces. It’s not until September 29, 2026, that we’ll know for sure whether Mojang Studios has outdone itself. But this is one franchise I’m least worried that it will set a higher bar.
What is Minecraft Dungeons?
Minecraft Dungeons is an action-adventure game that spun off from the Minecraft franchise. Rather than explore the blocky sandbox world, crafting equipment and tools, and building practically whatever you want, you instead focus on hacking and slashing the villain mobs of the Minecraft universe.
If you’ve played dungeon-crawling games like Diablo, then you should have a good idea of what to expect. You enter a map filled with enemies, loot, hidden paths, and secret treasures. You have to survive the onslaught of enemies by building and crafting powerful weapons, gear, and armor. Enemies come at you in waves, leading up to a boss fight, and it’s all about how you manage your supplies, avoid hazards, and figure out a way to get to the end.
What is Minecraft Dungeons II?
Minecraft Dungeons II is the sequel, which is slated to launch on September 29, 2026. Pre-orders are already out now for the Standard and Deluxe editions. From what I can tell from the description of the upcoming game, the gameplay will remain largely the same. You’ll wield your sword and hack and slash your way across the Overworld. However, you’ll embark on a new adventure, facing a new villain. You’ll also explore new locations across two worlds. So, the question is whether these new changes will ultimately make the sequel a better dungeon-crawler?
Story

Well, story-wise, I can’t quite determine which game will be better because the details for Minecraft Dungeons II’s all-new story aren’t quite clear yet. I can tell you that it’ll have a new villain. Also, the exploration will be interesting because the world is moving to an open-world setup. That means that you’ll no longer select missions and then jump into segregated parts of the map. Instead, the dungeons will all be interconnected. This’ll make it a more seamless journey across the Overworld without having to re-route to the menu.
Gameplay

In the Minecraft Dungeons II trailer, you’ll notice a neat addition to the gameplay. You’ll be able to jump during exploration and combat, which makes a huge difference in how agile and creative you can be. I imagine that the world will feel more vertically explorable, thanks to reaching higher platforms. But also the abilities that you can combine with the jump ability to extend mid-air combos.
The characters also look more striking, with more fluid animations and dashing looks. The trailer actually feels like watching a big-screen animation, alongside the bombastic music. These characters may be blocky, but they sure are way more expressive than ever before. Meanwhile, the lighting seems brighter and takes into account how it cuts through the skies and foliage. And in the caves, you feel a more moody surrounding.
Otherwise, you can expect to play the same way you did before. How you mix and match your weapons and abilities matters a lot in how it blends with your play style. The customization is pretty extensive, but Minecraft Dungeons II will take it a step further, adding more slots for curating your armor and talisman builds.
Multiplayer

What’s dungeon-crawling without friends tagging along? Minecraft Dungeons created room for a maximum of four players to work together and eliminate the mobs. Happy to report that the four-player co-op mode returns in the sequel, and I’d say it’s the best way to enjoy the game. It includes both local and online multiplayer modes. So, there’s really no excuse not to team up with your friends or strangers.
Verdict: Minecraft Dungeons Vs Minecraft Dungeons II

At the fundamental level, Minecraft Dungeons and Minecraft Dungeons II should be the same. However, there are a few drastic changes that make me think Mojang Studios plans to take the series to a whole new level. The shift from a mission-based playthrough where you select the next level you want to play to an open-world map will make your exploration more seamless. You won’t have to navigate back to the menu to hop on over to another dungeon. And for fans of dungeon-crawling, they know how many hours you can easily pour into that satisfying loop of tactical combat and gaining better loot. Taking away any interruptions will no doubt be much appreciated.
However, there are far more changes Mojang Studios is bringing to the sequel. You’ll now be able to jump to reach higher platforms and integrate it into your attacks. Beyond exploring two worlds, you now have verticality that should create room for more exciting secrets to find. You’ll probably, though, be most excited about the changes to the customization system. It’s that progression that keeps you coming back for more, and Minecraft Dungeons II promises a deeper and more extensive system.
You can expect more armor and talisman slots to start. Before, you needed to pause the game to swap out gear. Not anymore. And of course, the all-new story and locations that you’ll be exploring on your adventure to defeat a new evil. I can’t be sure yet whether the new story will outdo the first game. Dungeon-crawling hasn’t always been known for its intriguing stories, with Minecraft Dungeon choosing to tell a simple one. Who knows, though. The sequel may surprise us all with a deeply engrossing tale. For now, I’d say the future is looking bright for the series.
