Top 10 Largest Casinos in the United States (April 2024)

Updated on

While online casinos are far more convenient, many people still make an effort to travel across the country and explore the perks of land-based casinos. As a result, physical casinos are still thriving, with Las Vegas being living proof of this. The desert city’s casinos are impressive in every way imaginable, from their massive size to the number of games they offer, amount of visitors that come, as well as the amount of money that they make.

But, today, we are interested in the largest US casinos, and while it may be difficult to believe, not a single one of the top 10 largest casinos in the US is in Las Vegas or even in the state of Nevada. So, if you wish to learn about the true casino giants, here is the list of the 10 largest casinos in America.

1. WinStar World Casino & Resort

WinStar World Casino & Resort

The first on the list is WinStar World Casino & Resort, located in Thackerville, Oklahoma. This is the biggest casino, not only in the US or North America — but in the world itself. It can be found only an hour north of Dallas and around 90 minutes if you go south from Oklahoma City. It is located in the small town of Thackerville, whose population included only 400 people as of 2020.

The casino is truly impressive in size, which is at 400,000 square feet. It was built in 2003, and it has over 10,000 games, including slots and other available casino games. There are over 100 different tables and 55 more poker tables on top of that. The casino also has four gaming plazas, which were designed with the sights and sounds of four major cities — Paris, Beijing, Rio, and New York, so customers can move between them depending on their preference.

There is also a Global Event Center, which often sees concerts for major stars from the music industry. There are even two 18-hole golf courses that also offer private lessons.

2. Mohegan Sun

Mohegan Sun

Next, we have Mohegan Sun — a 364,000-square-foot casino located in Uncasville, Connecticut. The casino has been around since 1996, and it was founded and operated by the Mohegan Tribe. Since it was founded, it went through three major renovations, and today, it is the second-largest casino in the US, with 6,500 games, 377 tables, 45 restaurants, bars, and lounges, and a massive shopping area that covers 130.000 square feet.

Apart from that, the resort is actually home to two professional sports teams – the National Lacrosse League’s New England Black Wolves and the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. The Casino of the Sky also features a planetarium-like dome, which holds more than 12,000 plates of onyx from all over the world. Before they arrived at the location, they were fused into glass in Italy. Finally, there is also helicopter transportation that offers to take users from the casino to Manhattan.

3. Foxwoods Resort Casino

Foxwoods Resort Casino

The third on the list is Foxwoods Resort Casino, located in Mashantucket, Connecticut. This is a 344,000-square-foot tribal casino, which actually includes six casinos on a 200-acre-large area. There is a hotel that offers 2266 rooms, and it is the 4th largest hotel by room count in the country outside of Las Vegas. The casino was built 30 years ago, in 1992, and it features more than 280 table games, with a total number of games being at around 5500.

One interesting thing about the casino is that it has the third-largest poker room in the world, with 114 tables. Also, the resort has an outlet complex that sits between its two hotel towers, with 85 luxury brand stores. Lastly, there are numerous outdoor activities, such as enjoying a scenic wooded trail, as well as a zipline that goes 350 feet into the air.

4. Thunder Valley Casino Resort

Thunder Valley Casino Resort

The fourth-largest US casino is a Lincoln, California-based Thunder Valley Casino Resort. Another tribal casino, this one is owned by the united Auburn Indian Community. It is located around 30 miles northeast of Sacramento, and it was created to give the same feeling as Vegas itself. This is no coincidence, as it was created by a Las Vegas-based designer, and until 2010, it was managed by Station Casinos. The casino covers the size of 275,000 square feet, it was built in 2003, and it features over 125 poker tables, and a total of 3,400 games of all kinds.

After the casino went to the Auburn Indian Community, it saw an expansion that added a luxury hotel to the complex. The hotel has over 400 rooms, as well as a top-class spa. There are also 14 restaurants and bars as a part of the resort, an outdoor amphitheater, and even an 18-hole golf horse, which is a popular destination for both tournaments and weddings.

5. Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino

As the name suggests, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is a heavily music-inspired destination. It was built in 2004, and today, it is owned and operated by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. While only the fifth-biggest casino in the US, this is definitely the largest one that Florida has to offer, covering 245,000 square feet, with over 5,000 games in total, 200 of which are table games, and another 46 are poker tables, specifically. The casino’s walls are decorated with song lyrics, while music videos and songs are constantly present on screens throughout the casino.

With music being the theme, the casino has come up with some inventive ways to use it and make your experience quite memorable, such as setting up a soundtrack for your stay or allowing you to rent a Fender Guitar and play it in your room. With headphones, of course. The casino also allows smoking, although there is a smoke-free level for non-smokers, which covers 26,000 square feet, and it offers multiple high-limit slots and gaming tables. Speaking of high-limit slots, some of them require $1,000 per pull, and they are located in a separate area for big spenders.

6. Riverwind Casino

Riverwind Casino

Another casino from Oklahoma (headquartered in Norman), Riverwind Casino, was built in 2006, and it covers 287,000 square feet. It is a resort owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation. However, while this is a massive casino with over 2800 slots and other games, plus 17 poker tables and 30 tables for other games, it has a fairly modest hotel featuring only 100 rooms.

Still, the resort offers a few things worth mentioning, including complimentary valet parking, an off-track b etting site that is open for 5 days a week, and it is close to the University of Oklahoma, which is great news for those who enjoy gambling and sports alike.

7. Yaamava Resort & Casino

Yaamava Resort & Casino

Moving on to our seventh entry, we have Yaamava Resort & Casino at San Manuel, Highland, California. It was built in 1986, and it is one of the oldest on this list. You can find it only 60 miles outside of Los Angeles, and it is a site with the biggest number of available slots on the West Coast. In total, it has over 7,000 slots and similar machines, plus over 100 table games, all contained in an area of 222,000 square feet.

Another thing worth noting is that the casino doesn’t only dominate the West Coast when it comes to the number of slots but also the diversity of slots. There are over 600 different types of slots according to the casino’s own count, so if you are a slots fan, this is a place to be. The casino also has an interesting section called the Lotus 8 palace, featuring Asian-inspired slots, as well as baccarat and Pai Gow. And, if you decide that you need a break from gambling, there are 11 restaurants as part of the complex, one of which is a Mexican restaurant owned by the famous comedian George Lopez.

8. Choctaw Casino Resort

Choctaw Casino Resort

Moving on, we have a Durant, Oklahoma-based Choctaw Casino Resort, which sees around 300,000 customers pass through per year. The majority of them are believed to be from Texas, around 80%, since the casino is located only 90 minutes north from Dallas. It covers an area of 218,844 feet, and it was built in 2006. Inside, you will find over 7,000 slots and other machine-based games, but the exact number of table games is unknown. What is known, however, is that you can play games like blackjack, baccarat, craps, roulette, and alike.

The casino has other things to offer as well, such as its own movie cinema, a 20-lane bowling alley, a spa, indoor and outdoor pools, as well as a 26-table poker room, which is where the World Poker Tour events are hosted. This room is separate from the rest of the casino in order to offer privacy and a quiet environment.

9. Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort

Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort

Nearing the end of the list, we have Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, located at Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. This is another tribal casino, owned and operated by the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation. It was originally built in 1998, but it saw several changes over the years, and then an entire series of renovations in 2018, which were worth around $27 million. The casino added a number of new things, such as a sports bar and nightclub, new high-limit and VIP gambling areas, and more. It covers an area of 210,000 square feet, featuring 4,400 slots and around 70 table games.

The resort used to have a bingo hall, but it turned it into a concert venue, to provide additional means of entertainment. It also features an outdoor amphitheater that can fit over 11,000 people, and it has activities for the kids as well, such as a Kid’s Quest area with all kinds of games and fun activities.

10. Encore Boston Harbor

Encore Boston Harbor

Finally, the last on our list is Encore Boston Harbor, based in Everett, Massachusetts. The casino is actually identical in size as our previous entry, covering an area of 210,000 square feet. It is also the youngest on the list, as it was completed only a few years ago, in 2019, featuring not only a casino, but also a massive hotel. In total, the estimated worth of the complex is $2.5 billion, and it is known as the largest private single-phase construction project in the history of the state. The casino offers around 2,800 slots, as well as 74 poker tables, and 231 tables for other games.

The Encore features two floors, with the main level filled with slots, while the second one is reserved for table games, and high-limit rooms. The hotel contains around 600 rooms, and there are 13 restaurants and an entire row of luxury retail shops filled with everything, including art.

Biggest online casinos in the US

Of course, online casinos cannot be measured in square feet like land-based ones, but still, we felt that our guide would be incomplete if we did not list some of the largest online gambling platforms in the US. Here is what we found:

1. Ignition Casino

The first on our list is Ignition Casino. Ignition casino currently only accepts players from the United States with the exception of those residing in the states of New Jersey, New York, Maryland, Delaware, and Nevada. All other countries are prohibited. The casino was officially launched back in 2016, and it holds the Kahnawake Gaming Commission’s license.

It has over 200 games of all kinds,  and it has excellent customer support that can be reached 24/7 via live chat, email, or phone call. Also, it supports both traditional and cryptocurrencies, as well as many popular payment methods, such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Neosurf.

2. El Royale

El Royale Casino is a platform that emerged in 2020, but it was themed after the roaring 1920s. It is a perfect place to experience casinos from a century ago, with an elegant website design, over 200 available games, and more. While the platform looks like the 1920s, it’s security is very modern and reliable, and so are its available payment options, which include Visa, Mastercard, Neosurf, and Flexepin. Minimum deposits depend on the method you choose, but for the most part, they are quite low — going from $10 to $30. As for withdrawals, they are the same for all methods, with a minimum of $150 and a maximum of $2,500.

The platform has great customer support, featuring email, live chat, and phone call, as well as a FAQ that will answer many of the commonly asked questions. You can even access El Royale from your tablet or smartphone — not through apps, but via your mobile device’s browser.

Moving on, we have Red Dog  Casino, which is another platform that we highly recommend. Launched in 2019, it is a holder of the Curacao license, it is open to the US players, and it has over 200 casino games. Unfortunately, there are no live poker rooms, but, the platform has most of the games you would expect to find within an online casino.

When it comes to payment options, you can choose between fiat and crypto, with fiat options including Visa, Mastercard, Flexepin, and Neosurf, and available cryptos include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Litecoin. Minimum deposits are fairly low, going between $10 and $40, depending on the payment method that you choose. We also have no complaints when it comes to customer support, which is available 24/7 and you can reach out via email, live chat, or phone call. Lastly, the platform also offers mobile support, so you can also play while on the go, using your tablet or smartphone.
