Grand Theft Auto V Has Officially Sold 150 Million Copies

Theft

Well, it was only a matter of time before Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive would pop the cork and toast to the next Grand Theft Auto V sales milestone. Of course, having traversed three generations since 2013, it comes as no major surprise for most, seeing the latest figures glowing smugly on the sales board. But even still, as of this moment, the fifth instalment to the critically-acclaimed universe has sold over 150 million copies, which equates to 42% of the franchise as a whole. So, surprise or not — it’s still an impressive feat to celebrate.

Since 1997, Grand Theft Auto, as a unit, has sold a whopping 350 million copies, which roots all the way back to the early days of top-down episodes on PlayStation and Game Boy Color. Only now, Grand Theft Auto V has stolen the spotlight for good, with even more copies expected to sell before year’s end. And, with the game set to latch on to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 on November 11th, it’s incredibly likely that the 200,000 milestone won’t be too far off, either.

Here’s to the next milestone…

It’s a big day for Rockstar. It’s also an even bigger reason for the gaming giant to continue pouring heart and soul into the platform and its evolving online community. But saying that, it’s not as though they’ve needed an excuse to shovel content into the game before. If anything, this latest achievement simply nudges them a little further to world domination. At least in the gaming world, anyway.

While the upcoming version of Grand Theft Auto V hasn’t touched base on the finer details, it is believed that Rockstar will be publishing the facts over the coming months. At present, however, all we know is that the next-gen edition will bolster “new features” and “enhancements”, along with all the usual things one would expect from a game that has been under the hammer three times in eight years. But we’ll just have to see what November brings, eh?

Grand Theft Auto V launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 11th. You can follow the updates over on Rockstar’s official handle here.
