Square Enix has unveiled the next installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The publisher made the announcement during the 25th-anniversary event for the franchise.

Square Enix released the first trailer of the second part of the Final Fantasy 7: Remake, which the publisher referred to as Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth. Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is the second installment of Square Enix’s F.F remake project. The game will launch on PlayStation 5 “next winter.” This could indicate a release date in late 2023 or early 2024.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 trailer discusses Sephiroth’s endgame and aspirations for the world. It continues to show off what looks like a larger open area than seen in the first game’s Midgard. The trailer also hints at Zack Fair’s new plot, but the episode ends quite swiftly. Though brief, this serves as a tantalizing preview of things to come. The trailer reveals the official name of the game, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, and the release date of next winter toward the end.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not,” the game’s creative director, Tetsuya Nomura, said.

The developers of Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth stated that the game is the second in a planned trilogy. According to the game’s creators, certain members of their team are already working on the third installment. Square Enix did not reveal Final Fantasy 7: Remake 3’s title.

Release Dates

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will debut on PS5, and the developers have not confirmed any other platforms. Square Enix released the first installment of the planned trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, in April 2020 on PS4. The PlayStation 5 and an expanded Intergrade version of the game launched the following year. Square Enix eventually made Remake available for Windows PCs via the Epic Games Store. The publisher has confirmed that the Steam version will be out on June 17.
