Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was a hit, even on the underperforming GameCube. Now that the game has a remake for the Nintendo Switch, many fans are delighted to play the title. This is the type of title that players pick up for a large number of reasons. It's a great starter RPG for young gamers; the paper art style is unique, the partners are great, there's a lot of lore, and, of course, the fun battle system. Echoes of the Plum Grove is not an RPG, but it is one of the few titles that adopts the paper art style. The game places you in control of a pioneer who settles in a small town. There you will make your homestead while readying for winter. The game is multi-generation, and when your current character passes away, you will play as one of your family members. This allows you to build up several lifetimes of fortune and explore the world. The NPCs themselves have their own lives, creating a living world that is never the same from playthrough to playthrough.

Sea of Stars is an RPG available on the Nintendo Switch. The game is a turn-based RPG with a retro-inspired look. In it, you play as two children who have to defend against The Fleshmancer.  While the RPG elements are a bit more advanced, the story has a lot of lore and depth. Fans of Paper Mario that enjoyed the world-building and talking to all the various characters to learn more about the world around Rogue Port will fall in love with Sea of Stars.

While some gamers may be put off by the 2010's cartoon art style, the experience of playing this hidden gem shouldn't be missed.

You will befriend these monsters to get them to fight alongside you while searching the land for the source of chaos that is threatening the balance of the world.
