Oscar-Worthy Voice Acting Performances

Are there video games with Oscar-worthy voice acting performances?

Well, since the invention of video games in 1958, a lot of changes have taken place in the industry. Game developers have had to become more creative to produce games that are appealing to the audience. Thus, video games have evolved from simple storylines with simple graphics to intricate storylines with complex graphics. As a matter of fact, many video game design graphics can easily give Hollywood a run for their money.

In order to bring out the full intended effect of the games, developers are turning to professional actors. These actors breathe life into the characters. Furthermore, these actors make the game more relatable and increase demand. This is because people find excitement in buying these games and getting to interact with their favorite men and women in Hollywood. Unfortunately, the Oscar is yet to recognize some of these stellar performances. Here are some Oscar-worthy voice acting performances from your favorite video games.

5. God of War

The franchise was first released in 2005 having been created by David Jaffe for PlayStation players. It’s an action-filled adventure game that follows the story of Kratos, the Spartan warrior. He becomes the God of War after the death of his family. The actor cast to voice Kratos in the soft reboot for PlayStation4, only makes this fascinating story better. In it, Christopher Judge owns this performance and gives Kratos a depth that was lacking in previous versions.

Following his new life, Kratos goes through numerous emotional challenges in trying to leave the past behind. Furthermore, his relationship with his son brings about deep emotions that will leave you engaged to your screen and your emotions.

Seeking to forge a future, he is a man haunted by past wars and sins. However, he must still fight when necessary to protect his son. This range of different emotions can be difficult to navigate even for a seasoned actor. However, Christopher Judge more than delivers. It will be interesting to see where he takes the character in God of War: Ragnarok. Early November 2022 is when the release is expected.

4. Uncharted 4

It was created by Naughty Dog for Sony Entertainment. Following its release in 2016, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, received many nominations and awards. They were for the visual design, multiplayer option, and emotional narrative. It’s the fourth installment in the Uncharted Series and is set some years after the end of Uncharted 3. Moreover, it is fantastic if you are looking for a riveting storyline full of adventure.

Nolan North, who voices the main character and treasure hunter, Nathan Drake, reprises his role. He takes players on an action-filled, emotional journey. Voicing the character from the beginning allows him to put depth and growth into his performance. This is because he understands Drake’s journey.

In this installation, Nathan and his long-term partner, Victor go in search of the long-lost treasure of Henry Avery. This is to finish an adventure he had started with Sam Drake, his deceased brother. Furthermore, Nolan North expertly showcases the adventure and the emotional strain that Drake’s adventures take on his relationships.

3. The Last of Us

The Last of Us Part 1

The two fantastic actors that have elevated this game to the next level are Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker. Together they played Ellie and Joel respectively. Having been with the game since the beginning, they have become experts at portraying the character’s personalities in each installment.

Ellie, a teenager, is protected and escorted through the post-apocalyptic United States by Joel.  He must battle through his loss of family and keep Ellie away from danger. After all, she is the only one he has left. Their emotional connection and bond are what capture the players’ attention most. Consequently, Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy understand this dynamic perfectly and are perfect for the roles. They play the Joker and Batman respectively.

Mark fully internalizes the darkness of the joker. Therefore, he showcases what it means to take on the role of Batman’s most formidable enemy.
