5 Video Games Every Conversationalist Will Love

The art of conversation isn't something every living soul can comprehend. In fact, only a real conversationalist can grasp the concept of talking without yielding to awkward silences and water cooler subjects. Fortunately, certain video games exist, ones that can help the talkative thrive and the socially distant blossom into public speakers.

Anyway, the good news is you can delve into plenty of hearty and wholesome titles this fall. With thanks to the countless online platforms that house indie games by the truckload, there's an abundance of talky-type games available to play right off the bat. And so, if you're a sucker for genuine conversation, then be sure to check out these five awesome indies.

5. Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk - Announcement Trailer

Coffee Talk is a refreshingly elegant indie game that relies on wholesome conversation and gradual character building to craft its story. Its idea is simple enough to comprehend: you own one of the only coffee shops in the city, and its soothing atmosphere is partly the reason for its everlasting success. As the barista who runs the twilight shift, you are tasked with getting to know the locals and establishing life-long friendships, learning of their problems and lending advice to those deserving of it.

At its heart, it's a story-driven cinematic experience with a handcrafted pixel art style. Its challenges are next to non-existent, and the only real thing you're asked to do is immerse in the gentle ambience of the last remaining coffeehouse on the city block. That said, you can experiment with new brews and ingredients, as well as try your hand at making art to add a little zazz to your cups. So, if conversation and cappuccino is your idea of a pick-me-up, then be sure to visit Seattle's home-brewed Coffee Talk.

4. Road 96

Road 96 - Release Trailer

Road 96 is a story-driven indie flick that has you crossing the politically divided country of Petria. With a harsh dictatorship holding the land in shackles, the younger generation seek only to escape the country. As one of the many teens looking to cross the borders, you will have to make new friends, juggle finances, and make a series of difficult decisions as you whittle down the miles, one by one.

Road 96, being the political game that it is, gives you the opportunity to voice a new generation. For every character you nudge past the border, a new message will pave the way and shape a new future for the people of Petria. It's your role, while out on the perilous journey, to breathe life into a rebellion.

3. Neo Cab

Neo Cab - Launch Announce Trailer

Neo Cab is an immersive role-playing game that pours heart and soul into forming an ultraviolet world, one that wreaks of mystery and wonder. As drivers in the cyberpunk metropolis, you will uncover the secrets behind the disappearance of a long lost friend. In order to connect the dots, you must engage in conversations with the weird and wonderful folk of Los Ojos.

Neo Cab isn't in the slightest bit challenging, which is partly the reason for its appeal. Besides deciding which topics to discuss and which characters to entwine with, the bulk of the gameplay is straightforward and easy to follow. Conversations are rich and plentiful, and there's definitely enough paths to uncover as you unravel the thread of mysteries that circle the neon borders.

2. Hitchhiker

Hitchhiker Launch Trailer

Hitchhiker is a relatively short but gripping episodic adventure that takes you across dynamic highways and luscious lands in search of a long lost connection. As a hitchhiker with little memory of the years leading up to your long-winded journey, you must embark on a quest to find yourself and the truths behind your shrouded past.

Hitchhiker is all about raw and meaningful conversations, with each and every interaction with the game's characters bringing something fresh to the table. It's a mystery game at heart, but with a heavy helping of hearty talks and eye-opening revelations. It's also a fantastic way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon, especially if you're on the hunt for something far less, shall we say, full throttle?

1. Life is Strange: Before the Storm

Life is Strange: Before the Storm - PS4 Announce Trailer | E3 2017

Life is Strange is a collection of episodic memoirs that chronicle the lives of unlikely superheroes. Before the Storm, however, is a spin-off, though perhaps one of the better entries in the entire saga. Although relatively short, the four-hour journey is still regarded as one of the most heartwarming tales to date. And the best part is, it's absolutely loaded with well-written dialogue. Oh, and not to mention that it's also chock-full of life-changing choices, all of which contribute to the narrative. Think Telltale, only with a ridiculous amount of indie folk music.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm follows the tale of two unlikely friends, Chloe, and Rachel, as they tackle the pressures of day-to-day life. Although from distinctly different backgrounds, the blossoming duo find common ground through the love of music and adventure. To the common student, they're polar opposites, but between the shadows, they're the perfect partners in crime. And it's you, of course, that are tasked with shaping the soon-to-be life-long friends.
