5 Best Games Like The Division 2

Ubisoft sure has a way with worlds, especially ones that associate themselves with post-apocalyptic metropolises. Just take The Division, for example. In just one instalment to the third-person shooter series, the setting somehow managed to lay the foundations for an entire collection of stories, all of which could be told through the breathtakingly beautiful streets of post-modern New York City. Call that what you will, but we can't pretend that Ubisoft doesn't know how to weave a world together with the finest threads.

The Division 2 is no different, other than the fact that the story takes you over to Washington D.C. and adds a few extra bits and pieces for you to indulge in along the way. Collectively, the franchise stands tall as a prominent pawn on the board, and one that has more than enough content to bridge another few chapters to its core. But until the ball drops on any potential sequel, we'll just have to stand idly by and devote our hours to a few similar roots. Roots that, if you enjoy The Divison—you'll definitely love unearthing.

5. Borderlands (Series)

Borderlands 2 - 'A Meat Bicycle Built For Two' Krieg Story Trailer - Eurogamer

If you're a die-hard fan of shoot 'em up video games and enjoy hoarding unfathomable amounts of loot, then you should definitely spend a little time with Borderlands. It may come across as a little outrageous compared to Washington D.C. and the serious tone The Division takes on, but it's just as well-balanced, and its sugar-coated planet speaks volumes for ambitious open-world games.

As Vault Hunters on the unruly planet of Pandora, you'll venture through thick and thin in search of the mythical key to unlock its deepest secrets. With nothing but a powerful sense of greed to drive you, you'll have to shovel through a planet full of like-minded citizens, all of whom would give a left leg to snag a peek at the other side of the legendary Vault. And with that, you can expect a whole bunch of crazy characters, as well as a dozen or more hours of shooter-looter mayhem.

4. Destiny 2

Destiny 2 – “Rally the Troops” Worldwide Reveal Trailer

Of all the first-person shooters in the world, Destiny 2 is definitely one to gaze at, if only to appreciate the fact that, in spite of it having a boatload of content, it is still a free-to-play game. Because of this, it means you can test its waters without having to sacrifice your bank details in the process. The only caveat is, well—there are one or two microtransactions, meaning many will tell you that the game is borderline play-to-win.

Shove that aside, and you've still got a whole world to toy with. With thousands of obtainable quests, stacks of unlockable weapons, and a plethora of expansion packs to indulge in, Destiny 2 opens up as one of the most accessible online multiplayer games on the market. Years down the line, and it still garners a serious following, further proving that Bungie Inc know how to make a timeless masterpiece.

3. RAGE 2

RAGE 2 – Announce Trailer

While on the subject of post-apocalyptic worlds and the likes, it seems only fitting that we shed a little light on RAGE 2, a first-person shooter that relies upon bullets, brawn, and barbarity to tell its story. If that's the sort of deal you're looking for, then you've found it, bells and whistles and all.

Set in a dystopian society where citizens scrounge the remnants of civilization for a pittance, RAGE 2 unravels a jacked up experience where you, the lone wolf, get to take part in its unruly development. With that, you can expect large amounts of upgradable weapons, unusual quest chains, and a brutal storyline that follows the simple rule of shoot first, ask questions later.

2. Homefront: The Revolution

Homefront: The Revolution's Official Opening Cinematic Trailer

Hoisting the flag as an up-and-coming rebellion is elementary. But leading that very rebellion into an unevenly matched war where failure is expected, however, is a whole other ballgame, and one that Homefront: The Revolution portrays exceedingly well. And yet, it still boasts one of the most compelling narratives in modern day gaming, even with its one or two minor gameplay flaws that aim to counter it.

As a citizen in the harshly ruled city of postmodern Philadelphia, you and a team of highly-skilled rebels look to overturn the odds as a corrupt organization keeps its subjects under a pressed thumb. Your resources are minimal, and your territory is weak—but your motives are strong, and every citizen and their neighbor are rooting for you to ignite the drums of war. The time to act is now, even if it kills you.

1. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

PS4 - Ghost Recon Breakpoint Trailer (2019)

If you're a follower of Tom Clancy's other works, specifically the first-person shooter series, then Breakpoint is definitely worth your time. And if you enjoy the open world atmosphere that comes with The Division 2, then it's more the reason to invest in this online military shooter.

Whether you're going at it alone or with friends, Breakpoint gives you the opportunity to make a name for yourself in the hostile world of Auroa. With ex-Ghosts stalking your every move and a slew of death-defying encounters looming on every corner of the vast open world, it comes down to you to survive, be it with an army behind you or nothing but your wits.
