7 “Best” Texas Online Casinos (October 2022)

Updated on

Gambling has always been a part of cultures around the world, as a way of winning wealth by risking what we already had. There is a certain note of excitement in it that can get quite addicting, especially when it comes to the positive expectation of winning the next hand, spin, or roll. Of course, when the internet emerged, gambling found its platform and it evolved into online gambling, which became a lot more accessible to a much larger number of people.

It is easy to register on gambling websites, and even easier to deposit money with so many popular payment methods now accepted on such websites. The only thing left to question is the legality of it all. And, while each country has its own laws — the US does not. At least, not on a federal level, and not laws that go into great detail, which left its 50 states and other territories to figure it out and regulate it on their own.

Now, in our effort to check out the gambling landscapes of each state, we reached Texas, so let’s see what one of the largest states in the country did with gambling and how does it all work.

Texas Gambling Landscape

While there is huge interest and demand for gambling solutions in Texas, the state actually has very few legal forms of gambling. There is the state lottery, of course, which is the case with most states, and horse racing has been legal for quite a long time, featuring 4 race tracks where betting on horse races is quite popular. In addition to that, dog races are also legal, but there are no locations where they are taking place, so while allowed — dog racing and betting in the state of Texas is not really available.

In terms of sports betting, it has not been legalized as of yet, although 2021 has seen a strong (if unsuccessful) push to make it so. With the legislative season taking place every two years, the next attempt to regulate and legalize sports betting will come in 2023, and right now, a lot of people are optimistic about sports betting becoming legal at some point next year.

Daily Fantasy Sports have also not been legalized in Texas, unlike in other states, but interestingly enough — it is also not explicitly against the law, meaning that it was not forbidden. As a result, DFS providers are accepting bets from Texans, and the state has never made a big issue of it, so it continues to happen even without the law to support it.

Finally, we arrive to the casinos themselves, which are basically non-existent. There are only two locations in the state that are currently active, and as many may have guessed — those are tribal casinos. Even then, one of them has been at risk of being shut down by the government ever since it emerged six years ago, so it is safe to say that Texas is not a huge fan of casinos, either.

Since there are no licensed online casinos in Texas, we recommend these top offshore online casinos that offer online gambling to Texas residents:

1. Ignition Casino

Ignition Casino is a platform licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and in possession of the eCOGRA certificate. The platform was founded in 2016, and it is well-known for a wide variety of games, multiple language support, top-notch customer service available via email, live chat, and phone call, as well as multiple payment methods.

The casino also offers rich bonuses, promotions, and additional benefits. Keeping up with the times, Ignition casino also supports crypto transactions. All in all, it is a great platform for those who seek a platform rich with live games, and we recommend it.

The platform supports multiple payment methods, including crypto, and it holds a license by Panama City authorities. History of Gambling in Texas

Gambling has been a huge part of Texas’ history, and one of the many “vice activities” that ruled the state’s early days, alongside excessive drinking, sex work, opium, hallucinogenics, and alike. However, after the Civil War, gambling houses started becoming more popular and their reputation was somewhat improved.

Then, the Progressive Era, which came after the Civil war and the Reconstruction Era, took it upon itself to clean up the state, and so all the vices were either regulated or outlawed. Gambling never truly went away, as people would still play it at home and in the so-called “vice districts,” where it was still available, if illegal, but its popularity dropped significantly in the decades that followed. As for gambling — just like the ban on alcohol in 1920s — it was not stopped, it only became an underground activity that people still engaged in, and the government was unable to profit off of.

Then, the Great Depression destroyed the national economy, and states struggled to overcome its consequences in different ways. Texas’ idea was to legalize pari-mutuel betting in 1933, and after it had positive consequences, the state started regulating even more gambling activities, especially during the recovery period after WWII. This brought the legalization of the state lottery, for example, and in more recent years, the state saw the launch of two tribal casinos. These days, there are strong attempts to legalize sports betting, but after the failure to do so in 2021, the next big attempt is likely to come in 2023.

Casinos in Texas

As mentioned, Texas only has two real casinos. Both are owned by the Native American tribes, and while one of them is well established — the other one has been trying to remain afloat, while the government has been looking for reasons to shut it down.

The establishments in question include the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe’s casino in Eagle Pass, known simply as Eagle Pass Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel. The other one is a Livingston-based casino called Livingston Naskila Gaming casino.

Lloyd is passionate about online gambling, he lives and breathes blackjack and other table games, and he enjoys sports betting.
