“Some” Future Bethesda Games Will Be Exclusive to Xbox & PC, Reports Confirm

With the $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda being in the closing phase, the future is beginning to look incredibly bright between Microsoft and ZeniMax Media. Moving forward, both teams will be working together to explore Xbox Game Pass and its open-ended opportunities, and Bethesda will be looking to home a series of previous games on the platform for Xbox users to enjoy. Although we haven't the slightest clue as to which games will make the cut, reports have confirmed that several will be playable “later this week.”

As for the future, Bethesda will be finishing up work on various projects that branch out to both Xbox and PlayStation platforms. Microsoft, thankfully, has agreed to honor these terms, though they have mentioned “some” future games will be exclusive to Xbox and PC. Again, we're not entirely sure which franchise favourites will depart the PlayStation front, but it's looking as though PlayStation users will lose the privilege of owning some future Bethesda works. We're just crossing our fingers it isn't Elder Scrolls.

Could the acquisition of Bethesda mean the end of the Elder Scrolls on PlayStation?

Microsoft officially welcomed ZeniMax Media to the team earlier today…

“Today we officially complete the acquisition of ZeniMax Media, parent company of Bethesda Softworks,” Head of Xbox Phil Spencer wrote. “It’s an honor to welcome the eight incredibly talented development studios – Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, ZeniMax Online Studios, Arkane, MachineGames, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios – and their passionate global communities to the Xbox family. Now that everything is official, we can begin working together to deliver more great games to everyone.”‘

“With the addition of the Bethesda creative teams, gamers should know that Xbox consoles, PC, and Game Pass will be the best place to experience new Bethesda games, including some new titles in the future that will be exclusive to Xbox and PC players,” Spencer added. “We will have more to share about what’s next for our teams later this year. In the meantime, to properly celebrate this special moment, we are bringing additional Bethesda games into Xbox Game Pass later this week. Stay tuned for more details.”

Where does this leave franchise favourites now that Xbox runs the show?

While PlayStation 5 users are more than likely quivering over the thought of losing some of Bethesda's latest works, Xbox players are most definitely celebrating this enormous victory. With eight new studios being thrown into the fold, Microsoft will now be working overtime to assure the future of Xbox gaming is filled with dozens of opportunities.

So, if you haven't had the chance to renew your Xbox Game Pass subscription yet – then we suggest you do it soon. Now that both Microsoft and Bethesda have confirmed the acquisition and the future with the subscription platform, it seems as good a time as any to join the community and tuck into some absolutely phenomenal works of art from the award-winning developer.

You can join Xbox Game Pass for $9.99. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, you can purchase Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gives you full access to Xbox Live Gold, as well as the entire collection of downloadable games. Well, what're you waiting for? Bethesda idles with open arms.
