Hoyoverse Unveils Nodus Fall, a Co-Op Action RPG in the Monster Hunter Mold
HoYoverse, the publisher behind Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, unveiled Nodus Fall at gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 in Cologne, Germany on August 25, 2026 — an original co-op action game in which players take on the role of a “weaver” hunting mythic creatures, and the company’s most dramatic break yet from the anime-style gacha formula that built its business.
The world-premiere trailer opened Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live broadcast and showed up to three players fighting large creatures and humanoid foes in a realistic fantasy setting, a visual register far removed from the cel-shaded look of HoYoverse’s existing catalogue. Introducing the trailer on stage, Keighley described Nodus Fall as “an original co-op action game in which players take on the role of a weaver and step into a world where divine authority has crumbled and order has collapsed,” with players standing “as one to defeat mighty mythic beings using close coordination and sharp tactics.”
The reveal delivered no release date, no release window and no confirmed platforms. The three-minute trailer closed with the title and little else, leaving pricing model, engine and launch timing outside the record entirely.
Nodus Fall Marks HoYoverse’s Sharpest Break From Its Gacha Core
HoYoverse built one of the industry’s most profitable portfolios on a single formula: free-to-play, mobile-first action RPGs funded by character gacha, rendered in anime styling. Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero all run variations on it, and the company’s news hub shows that cadence still running at full speed: Genshin Impact’s seventh nation, Snezhnaya, launched on August 12, 2026, weeks after Zenless Zone Zero’s second-anniversary update on July 22, 2026.
Nodus Fall steps outside that template on every axis shown so far. The footage presents a realistic fantasy world rather than an anime one, and the on-stage description frames the game around coordinated co-op hunts against large creatures, the structural territory Capcom’s Monster Hunter series has owned for two decades. Whether the game keeps HoYoverse’s free-to-play gacha economics is the commercial question the premiere left open, and the answer will decide how directly it competes with premium co-op hunting games rather than with the company’s own live-service titles.
The project also lands as HoYoverse widens its genre spread. Gaming.net’s everything-we-know coverage of Honkai: Nexus Anima tracks the studio’s creature-collecting spin on the Honkai universe, while Petit Planet extends the company into life-simulation territory. Nodus Fall’s realistic fantasy footage marks a sharp departure from the anime styling of Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
The Trademark Paper Trail Predates the Reveal by Months
The game’s existence was on the public record well before the Cologne stage. Cognosphere, the Singapore-based entity that publishes HoYoverse’s games outside mainland China, filed to register NODUSFALL as a trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office on April 29, 2026, claiming priority from a same-day Singapore application, according to the office’s filing record.
The application’s goods-and-services coverage runs well beyond a game client. Alongside downloadable computer game software, the filing lists mouse pads, keyboards, headphones and other peripherals; clothing and footwear; toys, dolls and trading card games; and game services provided online, esports services and virtual-environment entertainment. The breadth matches how HoYoverse exploits its established properties, where merchandise, concerts and competitive events sit around the core game.
The US application hit its first examination step six days before the reveal: the trademark office issued a non-final office action on August 19, 2026, a routine letter requiring the applicant to supply additional information before registration can proceed. The application remains live and under examination.
What HoYoverse Has and Has Not Confirmed
Everything officially known about Nodus Fall fits in one trailer and one stage introduction. The title, the co-op action framing, the weaver role, the collapsed divine order in the fiction and the three-player hunts are on the record. The release timing, platforms, engine and business model are not. HoYoverse’s own channels had not published a standalone announcement for the game as of the premiere, leaving the Opening Night Live broadcast as the sole first-party account.
HoYoverse’s gamescom 2026 booth presence runs August 26–30 at Koelnmesse in Cologne, and the company had already committed to the show, having announced its gamescom 2026 lineup on July 17, 2026. Any further detail on Nodus Fall — a test phase, a platform list, a window — would most plausibly surface through the company’s product news posts, the channel where every prior launch beat for Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero has landed.
