HBO Releases First Footage of The Last of Us

Updated on

HBO has released a short snippet of footage from the upcoming TV adaptation of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us.

Two years have passed since HBO announced that it would be porting the universally acclaimed PlayStation exclusive over to the world of television. Two years, and only now have we been given a peek into Joel and Ellie's undead exploits across post-apocalyptic America. Granted, it's only a short clip as part of a much grander showreel — but it's a sneak preview nonetheless.

Of course, HBO Max is a rather large network, meaning quite a few shows were teased during its action-packed showcase. But The Last of Us, which is apparently the largest production to have ever been filmed in Canada, was a definite highlight, despite having only been given twenty or so seconds of screen time.

So, what did the snippet reveal, exactly? Well, not a lot, to be honest. You had a few of the known actors, an icy locale, and a wall of spores. Not a lot to go on, of course, but at least something to keep fans on tenterhooks.

When is HBO's The Last of Us Coming Out?

At the moment, it's unclear whether or not the adaptation will launch during the first half of 2023, or the second. The only thing HBO has let slip is the fact that it will be “coming next year.” That said, fans can rest assured that it's en route, and that it'll be streaming over on HBO Max sometime in 2023.
