For the last six years, it has operated without a license, but that still did not affect its quality or performance.

Its sportsbook offers a variety of popular payment methods, and the ability to bet on all kinds of big sports franchises, such as the NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA football, NCAA basketball, and NHL, among others. Apart from traditional currencies, it also accepts Bitcoin, and it features mobile availability. Idaho Gambling Landscape

Sports betting is becoming very popular throughout the US, to the point where multiple states started making moves to legalize it. In states where gambling, online gambling, and lotteries are already available, the process of introducing sports betting was fairly smooth. However, there are also other states where it is neither legal as of right now, nor is there a plan to legalize it.

One example of this is Idaho, whose legislators did not even make an attempt to legalize it in a long time, since the PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) was deemed unconstitutional back in 2018. With that said, any attempts to predict when and if sports betting will come to Idaho are nothing more than guesses, especially since it seems like there is no demand at the legislative level.

Idaho is already losing tax dollars to its border states when it comes to sports betting. Three of the states right next to it (Nevada, Oregon, and Montana) have all legalized sports betting. The fourth one, Washington, has also legalized it in 2020, but it has not launched it yet.

That leaves Idaho with no legal sports betting nor a standing plan to do so at this time. Fortunately, there are sports books that offer betting services to residents of Idaho, as is featured on our list.

When will online sports betting launch in Idaho?

For the time being, Idaho is not showing intention to legalize sports betting of any kind, including the online version. There is simply no movement at the legislative level, so it is not possible to estimate when it might happen or if it will ever happen. Statistically, it is likely that online sports betting will arrive in time. However, whether in one year, ten years, or more, is anyone’s guess.

Idaho will have to start working on it if it wishes to keep up with its neighboring states, which are already profiting from the introduction of sports betting through taxes. Not only are the states around profiting from sports betting, but they are even getting the money of Idaho’s own people, who are taking their businesses across the border.

Oregon, for example, has made its sports betting market completely online. It allows remote registration, and its border is fairly close to Idaho’s biggest metropolitan area, which includes the state’s capital of Boise. In other words, it is very simple for the majority of its citizens to just pop across the border to a gambling-friendly state, do some online betting, and return with the winnings.

Are there any legal betting options in Idaho?

When it comes to sports betting, Idaho has no legal options at this time. The good news is that it has several options to launch sports betting if it ever reaches that point and decides to legalize it. It could run it through the state lottery, which is available and legalized, although this is likely not the best option, given that those monopoly operations tend to limit potential tax dollars.

A far better option would be for the state to use the online-only model that was introduced by Tennessee. The third and final option would be using tribal casinos, as the state has 10 active ones at the moment. These locations could also start offering sports betting.

However, there is a different option for Idaho gamblers who are interested in placing bets right now, and that is to use websites that have suggested that anyone from anywhere in the United States can join their platforms and bet on sports online or play casino games. It is worth noting that these platforms are not licensed by US regulators, even if they have foreign licenses.

As such, they are deemed unsafe, as they are in no obligation to pay off your winnings or even return your deposit. If they betray your trust, you will have no one in the US to turn to in order to seek justice, which is why the country and its states recommend avoiding these platforms. But, with that said, such platforms usually have a pretty good reputation worldwide, so it is unlikely that they would attempt to scam US users just because they could. Stories like that would damage their reputations in other countries as well, which is something that online casinos and sports betting platforms aim to avoid since reputation is everything for online businesses.

What would be the most popular sports to bet on in Idaho?

So, if Idaho legalized sports betting right now, what would be the most popular sports to bet on? We were interested in learning the answer to this question, especially since Idaho doesn’t have any professional sports teams. During the research, we learned that the state does have one college team that is receiving a professional level of respect. This is the Boise State Broncos — the only Division I FBS football team in Idaho.

However, in order to make betting on the team legal, Idaho would also have to allow betting on in-state colleges, as this would be a completely separate category. Some states have already decided to ban betting on such games, like Virginia or New Jersey, so it would be interesting to see what Idaho would do in such a situation.

But, college betting aside, there are other sports teams within the state that could be popular betting options, such as MLB’s Seattle Mariners, NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights, the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers, also NBA’s Utah Jazz, and two NFL teams — Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders.

Daily Fantasy Sports in Idaho

While there are plenty of states where sports betting is not yet legalized, but they still allow Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), this is, unfortunately, not the case with Idaho. DFS is officially banned in the state, as per demand from the state’s Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, who decided that DFS connects constitute gambling under state laws, and as such, it is illegal. He even negotiated with some of the biggest DFS platforms, such as FanDuel and DraftKings to get them to stop accepting Idaho-based gamblers. DFS first became illegal in May 2016, and there has been no change in its status since.

Does Idaho allow horse racing?

Fortunately, yes, horse racing is one form of sports betting that is actually allowed in the state. However, there are only four tracks that list race dates, which include Oneida Downs, Cassia County Fair, Pocatello Downs, and Eastern Idaho State Fair.

Other than these, you could also bet on racing at Jerome Racing, Sandy Downs, and Rupert Downs. Finally, you can bet on horse racing at one more place, which is the Greyhound Park & Event Center. It is the only simulcast facility in Idaho. There are also a few options that originate outside of the state of Idaho but still accept Idaho bettors, including TwinSpires, BetAmerica, and TVG. You can reach them via smartphone or PC and place your bets on horse racing whenever you want.
