5 Things Wrong With Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance’s Relationship In The Half-Life Series

According to Tyler McVicker (a Creator and Sole Member of Valve News Network) confirmed in a video, the studio has no plans for the ongoing Half-Life story. Instead, Valve is working on a new software for their upcoming Steam Deck device. So the upcoming Half-Life game is called Citadel, combining elements from games (like Alien Swarm and Left 4 Dead.

The Half-Life series has Dr. Gordon Freeman, struggling to escape the Black Mesa Research facility to avoid the invasion of aliens. Gordon is from Seattle, Washington, is a graduate of MIT, earning a PhD in theoretical physics, is a Level 3 Research Associate Scientist, and rides a scout car, muscle car, airboat, jet ski, submarine, and digger.

A woman to not rush a relationship with Gordon, especially after he saved her countless times, is dramatically unforgettable. I am talking about Alyx Vance, (the woman of Afro-Asian descent in her mid-twenties, being a modified version of real-life actress Jamil Mullen's face).

Alyx has shown affection to Gordon several times in the series. Twice, she gave a sad goodbye to Gordon at an elevator. At the beginning of Episode One, she even hugged him when a dog pulled him from rubble. Well, they hardly spend time together, but do wound up in life or death situations. Here are 5 things wrong with Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance’s relationship.

5. Alyx Does All of The Talking:

Dr. Eli Vance’s daughter, Alyx, is a shy, intelligent, and strong-willed person, but that does not stop her from communicating with Dr. Gordon Freeman. Any healthy relationship needs regular communication and Gordon lacks that basic skill. Aliens are on a rampage and Gordon does not express to her how he feels. Something is certainly wrong about that.

When people suggest that Alyx and Gordon start a romantic relationship, she gets embarrassed, yet worries when Gordon leaves her presence, to complete a task.

It was during the opening level of Half-Life 2, across the rooftops of City 17, when Gordon and Alyx first met. Their relationship has the blessings of Alyx’s father, Eli, even though they do not share an official romantic relationship.

4. Gordon Is A Murderer:

Technically, Alyx is a murderer for using his survival skills to eliminate aliens, but Gordon heads around murdering aliens as well. Gordon could wonder about trust issues on if Alyx will betray him, but he does not seem to.

3. Judith Mossman Has A Relationship With Eli:

Judith seems to be emotionally attached to Eli, which is why Alyx do not get along with her. Would you honestly want a triple agent like Judith to be attracted to your parent? Eli had a wife named Azian Vance (who did not make it out of the Black Mesa incident) but that does not intimidate her.

2. Gordon Freeman May Be Mentally Disabled:

Mentally disabled people can be stronger than the average person. The disadvantage of having a mental disorder can still cause major issues to platonic and romantic relationships. Gordon never speaks, throws people things (like computers), uses a crowbar and firearm against aliens, jumps on tables, etc.

The voice of Gordon Freeman said Gordon’s personality is like a “shifting paranoia, egomania, mild schizophrenia, over-aggressiveness, petty motivations, and immaturity in general,” then said, “the only hint I thought they gave to his personality was how proficient he immediately was in weaponry for being a physicist.”

1. Eli Dies:

Alyx and Eli appeared close in Half-Life 2. After his death, that could ruin nearly any relationship, especially if Gordon refuses to communicate.

Maybe if Gordon said “Action” like he is the director of a film, majority of the scenarios in the Half-Life series would make sense.
