Asus has opened pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, the OLED-screened refresh of its Xbox-branded Windows handheld, priced at $1,299.99 standalone and $2,499.99 in a 20th-anniversary bundle. The company’s announcement on 25. elokuuta 2026 puts the handheld on shelves on 15. lokakuuta 2026.

The X20 is a collector’s-edition variant of the ROG Xbox Ally X, built to mark 20 years of Asus’s Republic of Gamers brand. It ships in a translucent black chassis that shows off a gold internal structure and gold-accented fans, with custom joystick lighting, a green illuminated Xbox button, and a 20th-anniversary badge on the rear. Microsoft marked the occasion with its own Xbox Wire post, the second piece of Xbox-branded hardware news it published on 25. elokuuta 2026 alongside a 25th-anniversary accessories collection.

The bundle tier packs the handheld with the ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case, a Pelican Protector Case, and a 68-watt adapter. The AR glasses also sell separately for $799, and per Asus’s pre-order post they go on sale in mid-syyskuu 2026, ahead of the handheld itself.

What the X20 Changes Over the 2025 Xbox Ally X

The headline hardware change is the display. The X20 carries a 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR Display with an OLED panel (the first OLED on an Xbox Ally) running 1080p at 120Hz with FreeSync Premium Pro and a variable refresh range of 30Hz to 120Hz. Asus rates peak brightness at 1,400 nits under a VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, with a 0.2ms response time, Corning Gorilla Glass, and an anti-reflection coating the company says cuts environmental reflections by 65% compared to a standard OLED without the coating. A slimmer top bezel is what allows the larger panel in the same body.

The control stack gets a similar working-over. New magnetic TMR joysticks carry a 3% deadzone and an algorithm Asus says eliminates four-axis snapping, with the company claiming more precision than the Hall effect sensors used across much of the handheld market. A transforming D-pad lifts and rotates 90 degrees to switch between 4-way and 8-way input, and the face buttons now sit flush with the chassis when fully pressed, with reshaped bumpers and impulse triggers behind them.

Because OLED panels are more heat-sensitive than LCD, Asus redesigned the cooling system to channel more airflow directly to the APU and keep display surface temperatures down. The X20 also swaps the 2025 model’s UHS-II microSD slot for a MicroSD Express reader, which the product page notes remains backward compatible with standard microSD cards.

Underneath, the machine is the same platform as the 2025 model: an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD in a user-upgradeable M.2 2280 slot, an 80Wh battery, and Windows 11 booting into the Xbox full screen experience. That chip includes an NPU, which Asus says unlocks future AI experiences.

Pricing the Anniversary Edition

  • $1,299.99: ROG Xbox Ally X20 standalone, versus $999.99 for the 2025 Xbox Ally X at launch
  • $2,499.99: 20th-anniversary bundle with ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR glasses, dbrand Killswitch, Pelican Protector Case, and 68W adapter
  • $799 — ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 AR glasses standalone: dual 240Hz micro-OLED displays projecting a 171-inch virtual screen at 4 meters, with Bose audio and 3DoF tracking
  • 15. lokakuuta 2026: on-shelf date for the handheld; the glasses follow in mid-September

The X20 sits $300 above the 2025 Xbox Ally X, which remains on sale, and the gap between the two 2025 models still frames the range: the base Xbox Ally launched at $599.99 against the X’s $999.99. For a sense of how the two current tiers compare on paper, Gaming.net’s ROG Xbox Ally vs ROG Xbox Ally X breakdown walks the spec sheet.

Buyers get three months of Xbox Game Pass in the box, per the Asus store listing. The 2025 model shipped with the same three-month allowance. Asus also notes that final pricing and availability vary by region and local market, and that the listed figures are recommended resale prices, with resellers free to set their own.
