What is 1348 Ex Voto?
1348 Ex Voto ist ein bevorstehendes Action-Adventure-Spiel. It takes place in 1348 in 14th century medieval Italy. You’ll embark on a chaotic adventure, stepping into the shoes of Aeta, who’s a young knight on a quest to save their loved one. You’ll travel far and wide in search of her, unraveling a heartfelt story via cinematic cutscenes, and engaging in thrilling action-adventure gameplay.
The developers claim the story draws inspiration from chivalric tales. So, you can have a rough idea of the path the narrative will take, pushing yourself and doing everything you can to save the one you love.

From political strife to rural exodus, you’ll navigate numerous harsh realities that further cement the brutality of facing varied enemies, ranging from bandits to mercenaries and religious zealots.
Spielablauf
1348 Ex Voto’s gameplay will take place in third-person, using an action-adventure gameplay system to engage your playthrough. You’ll unravel a heartfelt story drawing inspiration from Chivalric tales and implementing gameplay from action-adventure classics.
Combat will draw inspiration from historical European martial arts. It’ll mostly involve swordplay, evolving on a cinematic battlefield. And the animations will be from trained Performance Capture actors, thus retaining authenticity.
You can choose between two stances of either one or two-handed sword-wielding. Moreover, you’ll collect skill books on your adventure, which provide you with new combos and weapon parts, which will help craft your swordplay uniquely to your personal style.
The Italy you explore will be different from our own, setting you back to the 14th century, in the year 1348. And it’ll be a particularly hard time of pestilence ravaging cities and the countryside. You’ll explore varied environments, discovering castles, villagers, and grassy mountainsides. From Appennino to classical Rome, 1348 Ex Voto sure is pushing itself beyond typical worldbuilding.

Collections, in particular, will surely be a treat for completionists, looking to reach 100%, possibly via multiple playthroughs.
The line, “Bianca, you are all that is left to me… I shall save you,” hits pretty hard. And some have speculated a possible lesbian relationship between the protagonist and Bianca, who needs saving. Let’s wait and see what the final game arrives at.
Entwicklung
Developer Sadleo and publisher Dear Villagers are currently working on 1348 Ex Voto. Sadleo is based in Italy and made up of a small team of 15 industry veterans. Each member has an impressive portfolio. However, it seems 1348 Ex Voto will be the team’s debut game. They call the upcoming game a “passion project.” So, you’d expect moves like historical accuracy during the Black Death, or Italian voice acting. Still, it’s still early in development for anything to be set in stone.
Liebe Dorfbewohner are, of course, bigger, hailing from the South of France, and carry more experience publishing games worldwide. Let’s watch their pace and cross our fingers for the best outcome.
Anhänger
Zunächst 1348 Ex Voto's Enthüllungstrailer seems as though you’ll be controlling a young male knight. But alas, it’s a female rookie, gradually mastering the skill and art of swordplay. And partially because of their box haircut, which gamers seem to be enraged about. It’s admittedly underwhelming, with the developers not seeming to be considering adding more hairstyles as customization options. They reply to a comment on YouTube pretty hilariously, saying, “She can't have several hairstyles because she doesn't have time for a haircut!”
Anyway, you can’t deny the game looks good, in the sense of providing a fun time. It does have its issues, performance disappointingly among them. There’s also minimal historical accuracy to 14th-century, whether the setting or swordplay. The developers, again, claim “1348 Ex Voto is not intended to be a historical simulation. It’s a fictional experience built around an inspired and believable story.” Let’s wish them all the best of luck. Lord knows a 14th-century Eine Pestgeschichte or Kingdom Come: Deliverance-like game can’t hurt.
