Ocarina of Time Remake Launches November 5 on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo showed the first gameplay footage of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on 8 вересня 2026, and dated the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive for a November 5 release. The footage debuted during The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, a presentation of roughly 30 minutes that aired at 7am Pacific Time.

The remake was first announced in червень 2026, when Nintendo said the Nintendo 64 original would return for a new generation, rebuilt exclusively for Switch 2. That reveal stopped short of gameplay, showing only a brief shot of young Link in his Kokiri Forest treehouse. Nintendo’s official product page lists the game as a Switch 2 exclusive Digital edition with an ESRB rating for animated blood and fantasy violence, and until the Direct carried only a 2026 window. The page lists supported languages as Latin American Spanish, Canadian French, Brazilian Portuguese and American English.

What the Footage Showed

The gameplay shown during the presentation covered the opening section of the game, with young Link moving through Kokiri Forest. The remake gives Link a dedicated jump button, replacing the original game’s system in which Link jumped automatically when he reached the edge of a platform. Link’s outfit has been redesigned to look as though it was made from leaves and other materials found in the forest.

The footage also followed Link into the Great Deku Tree, which serves as the game’s first dungeon. Navi returns as Link’s fairy companion and continues to offer guidance on enemies and points of interest. Players can aim Link’s slingshot either with motion controls or with the control stick.

Nintendo said the remake retains loading screens between certain areas, a deliberate choice to preserve the feel of the original release. The broadcast demonstrated this with the transition from Kokiri Forest into Hyrule Field.

New Systems and a Changed Hyrule Castle Town

A new menu feature called Threads of Time tracks everything Link has done during the adventure, so players do not lose track of their progress. As the player reaches story milestones, a tapestry gradually fills in, illustrating Link’s journey.

Hyrule Castle Town no longer uses a fixed camera and can be fully explored. Night can now fall while the player is in the town, a change from the original game, where day-night transitions occurred only in certain areas.

The presentation also demonstrated a feature that lets players hum a song at the Switch 2. Provided Link has already learned that song in the game, it will then play.

From 1998 to Switch 2

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. The game previously received a remaster on Nintendo 3DS in 2011, which added improved controls and touchscreen support. The Switch 2 version is a full remake rather than a port of either earlier release.

Nintendo first confirmed the remake during its червень 2026 Nintendo Direct. The announcement trailer published on 9 червня 2026 runs one minute and 38 seconds and opens with a narrator describing the land of Hyrule and the Kokiri, the forest dwellers who each have a fairy companion, before introducing the one boy who did not have a fairy. Nintendo’s UK game page lists the title with a provisional PEGI 12 rating and a broader language list covering Japanese, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Chinese and Polish. It confirms the game is not yet available to purchase on Nintendo eShop.

The September 8 Direct was one of two consecutive presentations Nintendo scheduled for the week. A general Nintendo Direct focused on Switch 2 games launching this winter is set for September 9 at 7am Pacific Time, to be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse: Live segment with gameplay of selected titles from that broadcast.
