Kalshi announced on 27 oktober 2026 that it is expanding protections for 18- to 20-year-old traders, introducing a default $2,500 monthly deposit limit on every account in that age group, new trade alerts, and partnerships with parent and youth safety organizations that will publish guides for families.

Kalshi is a financial exchange regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and does not allow anyone under 18 to trade on its platform. Under the new measures, 18- to 20-year-old traders will be automatically placed into special accounts with extra protections and responsible trading education built in.

Default Deposit Limit and Trade Alerts

Kalshi said every account held by an 18- to 20-year-old trader will now be defaulted into a $2,500 monthly deposit limit, which the company described as another step in its proactive intervention for losses.

A second feature targets trade concentration. When a new trader with a balance over $1,000 puts more than 25 percent of that balance into a single trade, Kalshi will display an alert encouraging the trader to diversify.

“Like the stock exchange, Kalshi is available only to traders 18 and older,” said Luana Lopes Lara, Kalshi’s chief operating officer and co-founder. Lopes Lara said young adults are frequently new to markets and can require additional education and safeguards, and that this is why the company is expanding protections for that group of users.

Parents’ Guides and Safety Partnerships

The announcement also includes new partnerships with parent and youth safety organizations, including Parent ProTech and ConnectSafely, to publish Parents’ Guides to Prediction Markets. Kalshi said the guides are designed to help parents promote responsible trading habits and keep minors off the platform.

ConnectSafely CEO Larry Magid said his organization is working with Kalshi to help prevent minors from accessing prediction markets and to educate parents and other adults about the risks. Those risks, Magid said, extend beyond losing money and can include compulsive trading, excessive screen time and risky financial behavior.

“Kids should not be on prediction markets, and we appreciate Kalshi supporting families in keeping it that way,” said Brock Murphy, co-founder and CEO of Parent ProTech.

The Parent’s Guide to Prediction Markets published by Murphy’s organization is a free 12-page PDF in a Fall 2026 edition. Its chapters cover what prediction markets are, why families should stay informed, why the platforms capture kids’ attention, what parents need to know about the law, how children encounter prediction markets, signs a child may be engaging, and talking with kids and thinking critically. A final chapter lays out a 13-step parent checklist.

Parent ProTech discloses on the guide page that the guide was made possible in part through support from Kalshi as a Founding Supporter, that Parent ProTech retains sole editorial control over the educational content, and that the guide is not an endorsement of Kalshi or prediction-market trading. The organization also published two Kalshi-specific handouts: a one-page “Kalshi: What Parents Need to Know” sheet with conversation starters and account-safety steps, and a two-page “What Is Kalshi?” fact sheet covering how Kalshi keeps minors off its platform, extra protections for users aged 18 to 21, and how the exchange is regulated.

Existing Safeguards and Identity Verification

Kalshi said the new features build on safeguards already in place for young adult traders. The company monitors for signs of risky trading and intervenes early, with responses that range from sharing educational materials to blocking trading. Following a first trade, users in that age group are shown tools for setting limits on the time and money they spend on the platform, alongside confidential mental health support through Birches Health.

Through a feature called Inner Circle, parents and loved ones can receive real-time alerts on how much and how often their 18- to 20-year-olds trade. Kalshi’s family safety page describes Inner Circle as a way for family members and friends to ask traders to share their trading activity with them, and states that traders showing patterns of risky trading receive direct outreach with suggested changes to help them slow down.

Kalshi said it has always prohibited minors from trading and verifies that through Know Your Customer identity verification, which it describes as the same standard traditional brokerages use, automatically rejecting anyone under 18. Noting that some minors may try to use a family member’s identity to get around age rules, the company now features its ID Check tool prominently on its homepage so adults can confirm no one else is using their identity. The policy page describes ID Check as a way to request a check on whether anyone has opened a Kalshi account using a given identity.

Every Kalshi trader also has access to trading breaks, self-set limits and self-exclusion. Account security measures include Face ID active by default for users who have enabled it on their devices, expanded two-factor authentication, and selfie verification, under which sign-ups that trigger risk checks must verify with a government ID and a live selfie before they are approved for an account.

Kalshi said the new features are rolling out in the coming days.
