Far Cry 3 Classic Editions Head to Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027, Ubisoft announced on 9. September 2026. Both games are currently available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with purchases through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store and access through a Ubisoft+ subscription.

Far Cry 3

Ubisoft describes Far Cry 3 as an open-world first-person shooter in which players take the role of Jason Brody, a tourist fighting to survive on the fictional Rook Islands, a setting the publisher characterizes as a world beyond civilization ruled by piracy and human misery. Players can customize their loadout, active skills, and approach to each mission, whether they prefer to run in with guns blazing or take a stealthy ranged approach.

The official Far Cry 3 game page describes an island playground stretching from mountain ranges to swampy grasslands and white sandy beaches, with fights through the island’s towns, temples, and river ports. The story cast includes Vaas Montenegro, whom the page calls “one of Far Cry’s most notorious villains.”

The page also describes a four-player co-op campaign playable online or split screen, in which a separate crew fights to survive on the island. Its team-based multiplayer rewards players for supporting each other with battle cries, reviving teammates, and calling in support weapons, and after each match players can choose to punish or show mercy to their opponents through interactive cutscenes. The Far Cry map editor also returns, with new and improved features.

The game’s Ubisoft Store listing credits Ubisoft Montreal, Massive Entertainment, and Ubisoft Shanghai as developers, dates the release to 2. Dezember 2012, and lists Action/Adventure and Shooter genres with PC, PS4, and Xbox platforms. The listing prices the Standard Edition at $19.99 and notes that multiplayer and online features are no longer available for the product.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

Ubisoft describes Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon as a retro-futuristic standalone action game inspired by classic 1980s science-fiction movies. Players take the role of Sergeant Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando on an Earth ravaged by nuclear war, a cyborg on a mission of vengeance against his old commanding officer.

The official Blood Dragon page sets the story in the year 2007, after a nuclear war that erupted in the 1990s left humanity struggling to progress through a disastrous decade. The page says the east-versus-west conflict has raged for generations. New paths for peace must be found, and the US cyborg army may have found a solution: a powerful bio weapon on a distant island. Rex Colt’s mission is to gather information and determine what is going on. Enemies include rampaging killer cyborgs, mutated scientists, metal sharks, and Blood Dragons that shoot lasers from their eyes, and players face them with seven customizable weapons, from ninja stars to guns and explosives.

The page names Hollywood action icon Michael Biehn, of The Terminator, Aliens, and The Abyss, as the star of the VHS-era production.

The Ubisoft Store listing for the Classic Edition dates its release to 30. April 2013, credits the same three studios, and prices it at $14.99. The listing describes the Classic Edition as bringing the game’s bizarre open-world island to the current generation of consoles, with graphics and gameplay updated for modern platforms, and it notes that online features have not been available since 25. Januar 2024. Its summary of the game is direct: “Get the girl, kill the bad guys, save the world.”

The January 60FPS Updates

On 21. Januar 2026, Ubisoft delivered free updates enabling Far Cry 3, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and Far Cry Primal to run at 60 frames per second on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher said the updated frame rate gives players a smoother experience across the Rook Islands, the dystopian future of 2007, and the Stone Age.

To mark the updates, Ubisoft discounted all three games on the PlayStation Store through 4. Februar 2026, with 75% off Far Cry 3, 60% off Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and 75% off Far Cry Primal (Apex Edition).

Ubisoft said all three games are playable on PC through a Ubisoft+ subscription, on Xbox through Ubisoft+ Premium or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and on PlayStation through PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra. All three are also available for purchase on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition are scheduled to arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 in Spring 2027.
