Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember Sets 4 mars 2027 Release With Alpha Demo

Koei Tecmo America and developer Team NINJA announced on 16 september 2026 that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will be released worldwide on 4 mars 2027, alongside the start of pre-orders and a free, limited-time Alpha Demo playable until 30 september 2026.

According to the Koei Tecmo America announcement, the latest entry in the dark Three Kingdoms action RPG series is scheduled for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox on PC and Steam, and will be available from day one with Xbox Game Pass. A release-date trailer was unveiled with the announcement, covering the game’s story, key characters and gameplay systems.

Alpha Demo Runs Until 30 september 2026

The Alpha Demo is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC and Steam. The demo is not available on Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox Cloud.

The free download provides an early look at the game, including an in-progress character creation system and online multiplayer for up to three players. Its content covers part of the Changban open field, where players fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against Cao Cao’s pursuing forces and face demons drawn from classic Chinese legends.

Players who finish the demo will receive the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet as a bonus for use in the full game, and a survey will be conducted to collect feedback upon completion.

Writing on PlayStation.Blog, Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember producer Masakazu Hirayama of Koei Tecmo Games said the demo lets players fight through part of the Changban stage, a Three Kingdoms battlefield overrun by demons, using a martial-arts style built around both attacking and defending. Hirayama said defeating the demo’s boss, Wuzhiqi, earns the helmet, and he asked players to share their thoughts through the survey.

A Sequel Set in 208 AD

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember takes place in China in 208 AD, after the events of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Cao Cao’s forces devastate the home village of the protagonist and their friend Pang Tong while marching to invade Jing Province, leaving the land at war and overrun by demons.

The protagonist seeks revenge, fighting to open a path for Liu Bei against Cao Cao’s army before traveling to Jiangdong to join Sun Quan. There, the protagonist reunites with Pang Tong, and the two devise a plan to repel Cao Cao at the Red Cliffs.

Hirayama described an original story set in a dark-fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms, where elixirs of immortality and demons inspired by beings from Chinese classical literature appear alongside the era’s greatest warriors. He wrote that characters from the previous game continue to play important roles, while the story is designed so that “even newcomers to the series can enjoy it without feeling lost.”

Insight Skills and Open Battlefields

Koei Tecmo said the sequel brings back Wo Long’s fast-paced combat pairing attack and defense, with evolved actions exclusive to this installment. New abilities called Insight Skills let players dodge enemy attacks, turn the terrain to their advantage for counterattacks, and swing the momentum of a fight when outnumbered.

Hirayama said the Deflect technique nullifies and redirects incoming attacks and works alongside a range of Martial Arts techniques and weapons. Insight Skills, he said, can knock enemies into walls or bring airborne attackers down to the ground.

The game also offers dynamic open fields recreating battles from the Three Kingdoms era, including the Battle of Changban and the Battle of the Red Cliffs, with settings that range from fortresses cut into mountainsides to strongholds concealed in valleys. Koei Tecmo said players must raise their morale to survive, can recruit enemy officers to weaken opposing forces, and must apply battlefield strategy to turn the tide; Hirayama listed options such as outflanking enemy lines, capturing bases, setting traps and recruiting enemy generals.

From Showcase Reveal to Release Date

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember was first unveiled on 8 juni 2026 during the Xbox Games Showcase, when Xbox Wire published first details from Hirayama, the producer and director of Team NINJA’s Wo Long series. The sequel was announced at the time with an early 2027 launch window and day-one Xbox Game Pass availability, and Hirayama described it as a brand-new story in the Wo Long universe featuring a new playable protagonist, with returning characters for previous players.

The original Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty was released on 3 mars 2023, and the game’s official site states it has reached over 3.8 million players and sold 1 million copies worldwide. A Complete Edition of the first game launched on Nintendo Switch 2 on 3 september 2026.

Digital Deluxe Edition and Languages

Beyond the standard edition, the Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the base game, a Season Pass and the Season Pass Bonus Creator God Armor Set, plus three exclusive bonuses: a Digital Artbook, a Digital Mini Soundtrack and a Shitieshou Hat. Physical editions are also available for pre-order, and Hirayama said the digital pre-order bonus includes the full Creator Goddess Garb set.

Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is currently in development and scheduled for worldwide release on 4 mars 2027, with Japanese and English voices and text in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
