The figure arrived in a post from the official Nintendo Store UK account: “From 01/09, Nintendo Switch 2’s price will be revised from £395.99/€469,99 to £419.99/€499,99 on Nintendo Store.”
The UK number was the last piece missing from a revision Nintendo set out on 2026년 5월 8일, when its Kyoto head office published a notice covering Japan, the United States, Canada and Europe. That announcement raised the US price by $50 to $499.99 and the Canadian price by $50 to $679.99, and pegged the European increase at €30, but left the UK figure to be confirmed later by the local subsidiary.
“In light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook, Nintendo will revise the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) of the Nintendo Switch 2 system and Nintendo Switch systems,” the company said at the time.
Nintendo of America later restated the change in its own price revision notice, describing it as a response to “various changes in market conditions, which are expected to extend over the medium to long term” — language worth reading closely, because it frames the new prices as the console’s baseline going forward rather than a temporary adjustment.
Switch 2’S New Prices by Region
- UK: £395.99 → £419.99 (+£24, about 6%) from 2026년 9월 1일
- US: $449.99 → $499.99 (+$50) from 2026년 9월 1일
- Canada: $629.99 → $679.99 (+$50 CAD) from 2026년 9월 1일
- Europe: €469.99 → €499.99 (+€30) from 2026년 9월 1일
- Japan: ¥49,980 → ¥59,980 (+¥10,000, about 20%), already in effect since 2026년 5월 25일
The UK’s £24 increase is the smallest of the five revisions in both cash and percentage terms, roughly half the US rise on a console that launched at £395.99 against $449.99 in America.
How Nintendo Got Here
The revision timeline started in Japan. Nintendo’s 2026년 5월 8일 notice raised every piece of Switch-family hardware it sells domestically (the Switch 2, the Switch OLED Model, the standard Switch and the Switch Lite), alongside Nintendo Switch Online memberships and even its hanafuda playing cards, with the hardware increases taking effect 2026년 5월 25일. The same notice committed to the 2026년 9월 1일 date for the US, Canada and Europe, leaving subsidiary-level details, including the UK price, to follow.
Nintendo’s own notices attribute the increases to ‘changes in market conditions’ whose impact is ‘expected to extend over the medium to long term,’ without detailing specific components. The memory piece matters beyond Nintendo: the same AI-datacentre-driven component pressure has factored into hardware pricing decisions across the industry this year, including Sony’s calculus around its next console, as Gaming.net covered in Sony’s PlayStation 6 Launch Date Remains Undecided as Memory Costs Stay High.
The price revision also lands on a console that has been setting software records. Pokémon Pokopia passed 5 million copies sold on Switch 2 earlier this month, and Minecraft’s native Switch 2 version was dated for 2026년 10월 27일 in an August 5 announcement: the software story Nintendo will be leaning on to carry a higher sticker price.
What the Revision Does and Doesn’t Cover
The May notice and the Nintendo of America statement draw clear lines around the change. In the US, pricing for the original Nintendo Switch system is explicitly not changing, and the revision applies to the Switch 2 system itself, the console hardware, rather than software. Latin American pricing, the notice says, will be shared at a later date, as will details for other regions beyond the five already confirmed.
Inside Japan, one carve-out stands out: the multi-language version of the Switch 2 sold through My Nintendo Store keeps its existing price, while the cheaper Japanese-language-only model absorbs the full ¥10,000 increase. The Nintendo Switch Online revisions in the same notice detail new prices for Japan, with revisions also planned for South Korea.
What Happens Next for Switch 2 Buyers
The confirmed dates now run cleanly. The new UK, US, Canadian and European prices all take effect 2026년 9월 1일 — twelve days out — meaning the current £395.99 UK price has a hard end date on Nintendo’s own store. Retailers set their own shelf prices, but Nintendo’s store is the reference point the company’s subsidiaries publish against.
Beyond that, Nintendo has flagged two open items from its May notice: Latin American Switch 2 pricing, which remains unannounced, and further regional revisions it says will be detailed by the respective overseas subsidiaries. Neither carries a date.
For UK buyers, the decision window is now defined. Nintendo’s platform peers have already moved this generation (Sony and Microsoft have each raised hardware prices multiple times), and Nintendo’s own notice describes market conditions it expects to persist, which makes a quick reversal of the £419.99 figure unlikely to be the base case. The substance for now is simple: twelve days at £395.99, then the new number.
