Automation Games on PC

Most of the best automation games on PC are factory-building and management games, from Satisfactory’s balance between space planetary exploration and automation of multi-storeyed factories, to Mindustry’s dabbling in RTS and tower defense, in addition to factory management.

You might prefer more niche automation games like Palworld, which incorporates a monster catching and taming gameplay system into its automation of the tasks your new Pals do for you. Or Schedule I about growing your drug business from a small dealer to a drug kingpin.

10. Schedule I

Selling drugs has levels to it. You have the manufacturing stage, the distribution, before you even think about expansion, and the potential problems that might come from it. You can’t do it all alone, but first, Schedule I has you setting up shop.

As a small-time dealer, you have dreams of making it big as a drug kingpin. So, you gradually build your empire, hiring dealers, buying new places to stock up, and scaling your operations. In the end, you want a fully automated system that has employees and can withstand problems with law enforcement and cartel competitors.

9. Revolution Idle

Revolution Idle is an interesting concept, where circles represent numbers, and you essentially create more and more circles that generate more numbers. You can reset the game to create multiple layers and try to skyrocket the numbers to infinity.

While it may sound complex, the UI is actually simply designed. There’s a tutorial to help you get into the groove, and automation features that run in the background, even when you’re not logged in.

8. Infinifactory

As an employee of demanding alien overlords, your job is to design and run a factory that assembles products in the shape of blocks. You can manipulate the blocks in different ways, assembling them, disintegrating them, or stamping them.

Infinifactory is about automating those processes and ensuring that they are executed correctly, or else the alien overlords will kill you. There’s also a story campaign with over 50 puzzles and audio logs across various exotic alien locales.

7. Mindustry

Automation games can have combat, too, like Mindustry, ranking up next among the best automation games on PC. It’s a factory management sim with real-time strategy and tower defense gameplay.

You’re essentially building and designing a factory that manufactures ammo and sustains your armies. However, the automation bit can extend to how you administer roles to different units, and command them to launch attacks on enemy bases and claim their factories for yourself.

6. Factorio

It all starts from simple building blocks in the iconic Factorio automation game. Onward, the simple building blocks combine to form complex structures that ultimately become mega factories. And as your factories grow in complexity, so do the products you manufacture.

Oh, you fight enemies, too, using your complex networks of conveyor belts, no less. It’s an industrial powerhouse that grows from chopping down trees and mining ores to massive solar fields and oil refineries. And when the locals protest your exploitation of their resources, you have to be prepared to defend your empire.

5. Shapez 2 – Factory

Shapez 2 – Factory, meanwhile, is set in space. It’s a distinct game from the other best automation games on PC because it drills the process of building and automating factories to the basics. Your factories manufacture geometric shapes, which combine to form more complex ones. And your job is to break them down, stack them together, paint them, and explore a near-infinite number of ways that you can produce fascinating shapes.

4. Palworld

But how about an open world where you can freely run around? The world has mysterious creatures called Pals, who you can mount and ride on their backs or leap into the sky. Besides traversal, Pals can be tamed and recruited to live at your home base.

Hence, Palworld really kicks off, with a community of Pals who help you explore, gather resources, craft valuable tools, and build mega structures. Even though it deviates from the usual automation of machines, Pals can take instructions and carry them out without supervision. It helps that they’re super adorable creatures, too.

3. Kaizen: A Factory Story

If you’d like to experience at least some bit of what designing and building machines like calculators and camcorders is like, Kaizen: A Factory Story is the place to be. The game takes place in 1980s Japan and takes you back to the age of manufacturing arcade machines.

The interface is easy to use by dragging and dropping items onto the main screen. You assemble different parts, pressing buttons to weld items, cut, and drill them into the best designs. And then moving on to the manufacturing stage, where aspects like costs and optimization factor into production.

2. Captain of Industry

Your base of operations is a remote island, on which there are lots of resources to mine and harvest. You have excavators in Captain of Industry that you can use to manipulate the land, and there’s the option to grow your own resources as well.

Progression is also nicely paced, starting with building factories for basic tasks like metal smelting, to nuclear power plants, and even space exploration. You’ll also need train tracks for transporting goods for trading with neighboring stations.

1. Satisfactory

One of the best automation games on PC that has taken the factory building and management genre by storm is Satisfactory. It combines open-world exploration of an alien planet with factory simulation.

The alien planet is your source of raw materials, which you have to go out of your way to excavate, with things getting tricky when you run into hostile creatures. After some light combat, you can bring back resources with a variety of traversal methods, including jetpacks, jump pads, factory carts, and trains.

Your factories have no limits, allowing for co-op players to construct conveyor belts and automate trucks and trains. The more you can minimize manual input, the better for your factories’ performance and efficiency.
