CD PROJEKT RED has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, a free upgrade for existing owners of the 2015 RPG that launches on 29 septembre 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Revealed during gamescom Opening Night Live, the remaster also marks the game’s debut on two new platforms: a native Nintendo Switch 2 version, and Battle.net through a new partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, the studio announced on its press site.

The upgrade is broad. According to CD PROJEKT RED, Remastered overhauls visuals, performance, and gameplay across the board — enhanced combat, improved traversal and movement, new witcher sign effects, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, and new finishers. It is being co-developed with Yigsoft, the Hungarian studio that previously worked with CD PROJEKT RED on Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition.

Alongside the remaster announcement, the studio made a second move with immediate effect: every current owner of The Witcher 3 now has access to both original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, at no additional cost. Announced on stage by Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley, the giveaway applies across platforms and lands more than a month before Remastered itself ships.

What Songs of the Past Adds in 2027

The same showcase delivered the first look at Songs of the Past, the third expansion for The Witcher 3 and the first new story content for the game in a decade. The teaser introduced Letten, a new region the studio describes as an idyllic land of rural tradition and folklore hiding a dark secret, where Geralt faces never-before-seen foes armed with new abilities and a new weapon, the chain.

Songs of the Past launches in 2027 as a paid expansion on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, and is available to wishlist now on select platforms. It is co-developed with Fool’s Theory, the Polish studio whose leadership includes Witcher 3 veterans and which is also building The Witcher Remake, the ground-up remake of the first game in the series. The expansion was first announced in mai 2026, and Gaming.net covered CD PROJEKT’s joint CEO previewing the studio’s Witcher plans ahead of the show.

A New Platform Push for a 65-Million-Seller

The remaster extends The Witcher 3 onto hardware and storefronts it has never touched. The native Switch 2 version (pre-orders are open now) gives Nintendo’s new console one of the defining RPGs of the last decade in a current-gen build rather than the scaled-back port the original Switch received. The Battle.net release, meanwhile, is a first for the franchise and comes with a cross-promotion: players who buy Songs of the Past on Blizzard’s platform unlock a Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo 4, with further details promised when CD PROJEKT RED attends BlizzCon in September.

The commercial logic runs both directions. The Witcher 3 has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide and won over 250 Game of the Year awards, per the studio’s own figures, and Remastered is a free upgrade for existing owners on qualifying platforms. For everyone else, the game arrives on two new storefronts with both classic expansions folded in.

For readers tracking how this fits the studio’s wider slate, The Witcher 3 now sits at the center of a four-project Witcher program: the remaster and Songs of the Past extending the 2015 game, The Witcher 4 in development in-house on Unreal Engine 5 with Ciri as protagonist, and the Fool’s Theory-built remake of the original Witcher. Gamescom coverage on Gaming.net has tracked a show heavy on platform and technology announcements, and CD PROJEKT RED’s double reveal fits that pattern.

What Happens Next

The dated milestones from the announcement: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are free for all owners now; Remastered launches 29 septembre 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and Battle.net; CD PROJEKT RED appears at BlizzCon in septembre 2026 with more on the Blizzard partnership; and Songs of the Past ships in 2027. The studio is also running REDstreams presentations from gamescom throughout the week on its YouTube and Twitch channels, each covering specific areas of the remaster and the expansion.
