Sega and Creative Assembly Plan Delisting of Shogun 2 Complete Edition

Sega and Creative Assembly said on 15 ตุลาคม 2026 that they are working with platform holders to remove Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition from sale and to reinstate the original game, two days after the updated edition’s PC launch. The companies said the release had fallen short of player expectations and their own standards.

The companies said they are “working with platform holders to remove the game from sale and to reinstate the original game while we investigate the issues.” The statement confirmed that existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.

“We’re aware that Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition has fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards,” the statement read. It said the companies agreed that the current experience is not where it needs to be.

Launch Terms and Storefronts

Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition released on 13 ตุลาคม 2026 on Steam, the Epic Games Store, the Microsoft Store and GOG, with launch set for 16:00 BST. The edition is priced at £34.99, €39.99 or $39.99 depending on region, and was developed by MATABOO, Creative Assembly and Sega for PC, according to Creative Assembly’s pre-launch FAQ. The Steam store listing credits Creative Assembly and MATABOO as developers and Sega as publisher.

The package pairs an updated version of the original Total War: Shogun 2 with all of its downloadable content, including the Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai campaigns. A post on the game’s official Steam announcements feed on 13 ตุลาคม 2026 confirmed the release and offered a 75% discount to Steam users who own the original game. According to the FAQ, the time-limited loyalty discount runs from launch until 12 พฤศจิกายน 2026 at 16:00 GMT, and existing owners of the original receive its legacy downloadable content at no additional cost.

The Original Game’s Withdrawal and Planned Return

The Complete Edition’s release plan also changed how the original game is sold. From 28 กันยายน 2026 at 17:00 BST, Total War: Shogun 2 stopped being available to purchase as a standalone game on Steam, though its store page remained live and existing owners kept full access. All Steam owners of the original were granted any downloadable content they did not already own, free of charge.

Purchases of the Complete Edition on Steam include the original game and all of its downloadable content except the Blood Pack, which the FAQ says is excluded due to age ratings. Purchases on the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG include the Complete Edition only.

The October 15 statement says the companies are now working with platform holders to reinstate the original game while the investigation into the edition’s problems proceeds.

What the Complete Edition Changed

Engine and interface work included a 64-bit upgrade described as a thorough tech rewrite, 1440p and 4K interface scaling with most of the interface reskinned, a new borderless fullscreen mode and higher camera-height options for land and naval battles.

Graphical changes included updated textures and models, rendering technology imported from Total War: Three Kingdoms and Total War: Warhammer 3, added DLSS SR and AMD FSR 3.1 anti-aliasing, improved shadows, lighting, fog and skyboxes with transitional lighting as seasons change, and updated 2D parchment campaign maps. A toggleable 2.5D movie style inspired by Japanese Ukiyo-e art handles intro, victory, defeat and agent movies, with an option to swap back to the original versions.

Gameplay additions included a slider for the Realm Divide mechanic, official support for more than 50 previously minor factions, Quick Deal diplomacy, modernised controls and a bird’s-eye battle-map perspective. The overview thanked modders who had helped players unlock minor clans over the years. Quality-of-life additions included colour-adjustment presets for Deuteranopia, Protanopia and Tritanopia, separate voice and text language settings, a custom-battle auto-army button and campaign overlay maps covering ownership, attitude, wealth, public order and food.

The edition added full Japanese and Chinese voice and text localisation, plus text localisation for Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish. Documented bug fixes included fatigue now applying correctly to infantry and a series of corrected unit-bonus data issues. The overview said the changes apply only to the Complete Edition, citing the importance of keeping the original Shogun 2 build accessible as it currently exists.

The Steam listing describes multiplayer options including the Avatar Conquest mode, cooperative and competitive campaigns, and custom battles for up to eight players.

The game’s Steam store page displays an “Overwhelmingly Negative” English-language review summary, with 17% of 1,578 English user reviews marked positive. The page’s popular user-defined tags include “Artificial Intelligence,” displayed alongside genre labels such as “Strategy” and “Grand Strategy.”

The companies said they are working closely with their development partner to identify the causes of the problems, deliver improvements, and ensure the Complete Edition meets the quality standards players expect from Total War.
