Yakuza Developer RGG Studio Announces Livestream Event For Next Week
The Yakuza series developer, RGG Studio, has announced a live event scheduled for next week. Every year since 2015 has seen the studio reveal a new Yakuza game. Although it appears practically inevitable that this pattern will end in 2022, it is still likely that the studio will unveil Yakuza 8 quite soon.
RGG Studio announced the event, dubbed “RGG Summit 2022” on Twitter today. The announcement did reveal any details of what the developer will reveal during the Livestream. The event will ostensibly cover new games that the studio will be releasing. This stream will happen on September 14 at 6:00 AM EST / 3:00 AM PST on Sega's official Twitch channel. The event is also taking place just a day before the Tokyo Game Show 2022 starts.

What can we expect from the showcase next week? The studio is likely to show off Yakuza 8, the sequel to 2020's Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which introduced a new cast of characters and JRPG-inspired battle features. The studio officially stated that Yakuza 8 is in development. Therefore, its reveal at the RGG Summit feels like a foregone conclusion. In October of last year, Sega and RGG Studio revealed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon's Sequel was under development. The sequel will once again feature protagonist Ichiban Kasuga.
Sega's Ryu Ga Gotoku studios have experienced recent changes and departures. Toshihiro Nagoshi, the creator of the Yakuza series, left the company in 2019. It also appears that this will be the first year without a new Yakuza game or spin-off. With the team at RGG studios working on the next game, it could only mean that a reveal should be happening soon.
As of right now, neither the release date nor the platforms for Yakuza 8 are known. However, if these specifics are revealed next week, we'll be sure to update you here on gaming.net.
