Xbox GoldenEye 007 Remaster Could be Set for Release After Achievements Appear

The long-awaited HD version of GoldenEye 007 appears to be on its way after achievements were spotted on Xbox servers.

Microsoft has now included the game's achievements on its official website, making a GoldenEye 007 remake for Xbox look increasingly plausible.

According to internet sleuth Wario64, achievements for an Xbox version of the legendary N64 shooter have emerged on Microsoft's servers. This is a clear indication that a release is on the way.

First launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1997, the iconic game has both single and multiplayer objectives. GoldenEye 007 awarded players 1,000 Gamerscore in total, as is customary for full-fledged games.

Rare developers were originally discovered to probably play an Xbox version of the FPS earlier this year since their progress was tracked on tracker sites like TrueAchievements. There had been rumours of a remaster, which was finally confirmed in January. TrueAchievements, the Xbox accomplishment tracking website, added the game to its database.

Rare revealed that an upgraded version of GoldenEye 007 was in production for the Xbox 360's Live Arcade. But, the company canceled the game owing to licensing concerns and miscommunication between license holders and a young team who pushed forward to build it. Microsoft had to shelve an already complete remake of the iconic N64 game for the Xbox 360 back in 2007.

Data for the game leaked online in February 2021. A functioning version of the GoldenEye 007 Xbox 360 remake that Microsoft had canceled leaked onto file-sharing networks. This allowed anybody with access to the data to play it on a modified console or PC emulator.

It's been a while since we saw a full-fledged Bond game, but the license's notoriously strict limitations appear to be relaxing. In other news, Hitman creator Io Interactive, is also working on Project 007, a completely new plot for the super-spy.
