Well, after a jam-packed forty minutes of unveiling all the latest games under the hammer, Electronic Arts has officially closed the book on EA Play Live 2021. But what was brought to the spotlight at the event — and, more importantly, what can we scribble down in our calendars for the forthcoming year? Well, settle down and get your pen at the ready, because we're running through all the juicy details that popped up at today's show. So, without further ado — here's what EA announced for 2021 and beyond.

Codemasters has officially joined Electronic Arts + Grid Legends announced

In case you missed the news from a few months back, Codemasters (Grid, DiRT, Project Cars and F1) has officially joined the Electronic Arts division. Originally latched to Take-Two Interactive with an almost finalized takeover back in March, the racing kingpin was set to join the 2K family for good. However, after EA stepped in with a $1.2B counter-offer, hands were quickly changed, with EA effectively snatching the deal and stealing the reigns.

Now, Codemasters will work closely with EA, using knowledge from both sides to market upcoming sports chapters, mainly the upcoming Grid Legends, which was revealed during the show today. You can watch the trailer for the next entry in the Grid timeline below.

Grid Legends will be released in 2022.

Apex Legends: Emergence announced

Respawn Entertainment has been funnelling content into Apex Legends for two years now, with no real signs of letting up on the uploads anytime soon. And now, a new chapter will bolt on to the battle royale platform. Season 10, coined as Apex Legends: Emergence, will be coming to the show in August, which will also tie in a brand new Legend: Seer. Similar to Bloodhound, the Seer will be a tracker, strapped with the ability to use a heartbeat sensor to snuff out hidden enemies. As well as this, the new Legend will also have access to Microdrones, which can be used to pinpoint enemies with precision.

Apex Legends: Emergence will also introduce Ranked Arenas to the mix, boosting the 3v3 mode that was introduced with Legacy back in May. You can see the teaser trailer for Apex Legends: Emergence below.

Apex Legends: Emergence launches on August 3.

Lost in Random announced

Crossing over to the EA Originals division, Lost in Random made an appearance during today's show. Looking creepier than ever, developer Zoink Games shed a smidgen of light on the gloomy little platformer, showcasing a gameplay trailer to help whet the whistle for its September launch. You can pre-order Lost in Random right now for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC.

Lost in Random will be released on September 10.

Knockout City: Season 2 — Fight at the Movies announced

True to their word, indie developer Velan Studios will be bringing a second season to their best-selling dodgeball bonanza Knockout City on July 27. Season 2, spun as Fight at the Movies, will introduce a new map to the game, as well as a few sneaky extras. This comes after Knockout City tippled over the five million player milestone, which has continued to escalate since its late May debut on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC. Battlefield 2042

EA's most anticipated game finally made its appearance at EA Play Live, quickly drawing every set of eyes in the room as it took to the stage. Loaded with an explosive trailer showcasing the packed-out modes and mind-boggling physics, Battlefield 2042 lit up the stage and set the benchmark ridiculously high. However, it was the newfound Battlefield Portal that was quick to snatch the spotlight and take the crowd by storm.

Battlefield Portal, in a nutshell, is a custom tool that will allow players to alter the Battlefield experience and concoct online sessions however they see fit. With all the classic maps thrown into the bowl, fans will have all the essentials at the ready, with an endless pipeline of weapons, vehicles and scenarios at their disposal. So, basically an enormous sandbox mode. And luckily, that's just one of three modes Battlefield 2042 will include. The other two, which were revealed last month, will be the All-Out Warfare, as well as Battlefield Hazard Zone, both of which will heavily focus on the multiplayer front. You can view the details for the latest modes here.

Battlefield 2042 will be released on October 22.

Dead Space Remake announced

To close the show, Electronic Arts shared one final cinematic — a cinematic that fans were astonishingly quick to recognise as a Dead Space reboot. That's right, it's finally happening. After toying with the fan base for so long, Electronic Arts has shed light on the beloved survival horror franchise, giving it a complete facelift with the iconic Isaac Clarke manning the helm. Unfortunately, a release date wasn't revealed for the game, though a 2022 slate would be a rough guesstimate. But we'll have to hang fire for any updates on that one.
