Tomb Raider 2021: What Can We Expect?

Updated on

The marvellous minds behind Lara Croft and the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy have brought something to the spotlight this morning. In a fairly short video, Crystal Dynamics shared some news about a new Tomb Raider project, which will aim to bridge both the old games with the new ones. And, seeing as we're celebrating twenty-five glorious years of the franchise — fans are expecting some pretty big reveals this year.

While the original Tomb Raider timeline focused more on a defined explorer with mounds of experience, the rebooted series opted for the opposite end of the scale. Sadly, what happened between the origins and the endgame of the renowned Lara Croft have yet to be explored fully. Perhaps now is the time to bridge that gap, after all? If that really is the case — then Crystal Dynamics have got quite the task on their hands.

In the video short, series director Will Kerslake did shed a little light on the work in progress.

Will Kerslake explains…

“We envision the future of Tomb Raider unfolding after [the rebooted trilogy], telling stories that build upon both the breadth of Core Design and Crystal Dynamics’ games, looking to unify these timelines,” he said. “With Tomb Raider’s extensive history, this is not an easy task, and we ask for patience as we go through the process.”

Unfortunately, we have zero indication as to when we'll see some raw material hit our screens. It's been a few years since we saw Lara Croft's finale in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but we're hoping the 25th anniversary this year will be the beginning of a whole new adventure. Here's hoping Crystal Dynamics deliver on all fronts and keep the long-standing series going strong. We're rooting for 'em.
