Calling all wrestling fanatics with a love for video games! “Steve Masson’s Untitled Wrestling Game” is in development. Why is this important and why is this any different from any other wrestling game? That is a wonderfully educated question. It is a physics-based wrestling game and after you just take a glimpse at the development process, you will notice the difference.

Gameplay:

While the game is still in development, we do know that if you grapple with an opponent to perform a maneuver, they will react to the surface and/or objects around, more like an actual wrestler. Their back may tilt, arch, or maybe their body will have the involuntarily reaction of writhing from the pain. If you perform a suplex on an opponent and they land on the ring ropes, depending on the physics, they can bounce back into the ring or fall out. If someone performs an irish whip on you, you can clothesline them in mid-air (as if it it is naturally done).

So far, there appears to be slow-motion effects in the video game development, but when an official trailer is released and/or the finished product is released, then we will know about how well it turns out. Can you imagine going on the announcer’s table with a game based strictly on physics. That means that if both wrestlers weigh just enough, before finishing a move, the table should be able to come falling down. Maybe one wrestler weighing too much can cause cause a table to crack by standing on it.

The heavier the opponent is, the more you will struggle to lift the weight. That sounds perfectly reasonable, if you prefer get as close to real life wrestling via video game.

What we are not sure yet about this game are the platforms it will be released on, as well as the release date. We do know Steve would like to get the video game on consoles, but right now, it is not his top priority. In the meanwhile, you can keep yourself updated on Steve Masson’s “Twitter.” If Steve actually comes up with a decent title, then we can stop calling the game “Steve Masson’s Untitled Wrestling Game. If this is a finished product one day, it should impact the next generation of wrestling games.

This leads us to more questions like “Will there be a female roster,” “How many types of matches will there be,” “Is there a create a superstar mode,” etc. It is a lot of work just to design a character on a video game, but to be determined to create an entire wrestling game, is another story.
